Too soon, perhaps, but ... What are your fave-ourite Audio releases of new material so far this year...

Me? The new Audioslave "Out Of Exile" has been in constant rotation as well as the Beck "Guerro," "Ryan Adams' "Cold Roses," Lucinda Live and John Hiatt's "Master Of Disaster."

I'm going to go on one more binge in the Fall and am looking for a few suggestions or releases I may have overlooked.

 See you around the campus...

In hip-hop, albums by Quasimoto, Blueprint, Othello, and Obsidian Blue have been to my liking.

I also like the new album by Terence Blanchard, Flow, and the debut by Raul Midon. Joe Lovano's Joyous Encounter is also very good too, nice follow up to last year's I'm All For You.

Sufjan Stevens' Illinois is fantastic and will probably hold up as my favorite album of the year. Other 2005 releases getting a lot of play from me are the Hold Steady's Separation Sunday, New Order's Waiting for the Sirens' Call, and M.I.A.'s Arular.

A lot of people are liking the new Sigur Ros album but I still find them boring. Also haven't listened to the new Kanye West yet but I didn't like College Dropout that much so not expecting much.

Ditto! Been enjoying this one very much.

Anybody heard or wanna nominate the newest White Stripes CD? I like Elephant, but haven't heard anything off "Get Behind Me Satan".

The Andrew Bird disk has been a big favorite, along with Spoon and Electrelane and a few others. But the two big ones for me right now are The National Alligator and Richmond Fontaine The Fitzgerald. The National comes off their great EP from last year that I love, and the new one is very good too, and Richmond Fontaine now has a string of very good CDs to their name. This new one is really special though. Willy Vlautin wrote these stark tunes while tucked away in the Fitzgerald Casino Hotel in Reno for a few weeks, and it's pretty vivid and powerful stuff. Inevitably it has been, and probably will continue to be, compared to Springsteen's legendary Nebraska, but in this case with a more local scope since the characters all have lives revolving that central location. To me, it's also got a sound somewhat reminiscent of the sad tunes on that first Steve Earle album after he got out of jail. With maybe some help from Damien Jurado. And that weedy voice, similar to the much more popular Jeff Tweedy of Wilco fame. With maybe a touch of his ex-Tupelo partner, Jay Farrar, in the lower registers. One of those dusty, lived-in, stripped-down productions that is guaranteed to alienate some fans looking for the more up-beat and rocking alt-country they've come to expect from Richmond Fontaine, but I can't stop listening to it.

For me the 2005 release that has gotten the most plays for me is no contest:

How about the White Stripes "Get Behind Me Satan"; I think it's brilliant!

And BTW, any news of this release on vinyl?

I also like Beck's "Guerro." I got the long one with the remixes.

I saw them earlier this summer and hope to be at their October 13 show. They are very, very good live. You won't be disappointed. (Unless you like a lot of chatter between songs.)

My local radio stations are too narrowly formatted for PT but I heard "Shallow" used as bumper music on Dan Patrick's national sports talk radio show.

"Deadwing" has yet to make it to my shelf. It stays in my changer even when I'm listening to something else.

This is IMO one of the best new hip-hop/r&b releases in years.

It's good, huh? What's the style - is he doing Beatle-y stuff again? Ukelele?

And how are the other Recollections albums?
