No one seems to hate my polls yet so I guess I’ll continue. What’s your favourite song on Fresh Cream (U.K. and U.S. combined)?

My personal favourite is Spoonful. Not sure I’ll ever get sick of this song. One of my favourite Cream songs and I adore this band and this album.
Also, the production on this album is phenomenal. It feels live at points. It really is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard for sound quality. The instrumentation in this album, too, is just exceptional. I’m listening to the 2016 stereo remasters found on the 2016 deluxe version.

A close second for best song is I Feel Free. The chorus vocals are incredible. Absolutely love it. The U.K. and U.S. albums remove either I Feel Free or Spoonful and I honestly can’t imagine listening to the album without either. Other highlights are Rollin’ and Tumblin’ and Cat’s Squirrel. I’m So Glad is decent, but not great, and I don’t like Four Until Late but don’t hate it. Everything else rules.

Oops I thought the other poll thread died but I guess it seems to have been revived.

Am I the only one who thought Clapton sang most if not all the songs in Cream’s discography? I was shocked when I had listened to them for ages and only just found out Bruce did and Clapton only did a few, like Four Until Late.

I'm So Glad, for Clapton's beautifully constructed solo, followed closely by Sweet Wine for its scorching instrumental passage. Play it loud!

    N.S.U. for me.
My favorite live version is the 2005 performance. Very stately and tasty, and not too long.

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

Tough call between NSU and Spoonful, mainly because of what they did with both of these songs when done live at Winterland in 1968. Winner, by a very thin margin for me, is NSU. Love Ginger's intro on Live Cream too.

I voted NSU. I Feel Free isn't on my (UK) copy of Fresh Cream and I still think of it as being a classic non-album single.
I remember first hearing the album as a teenager and now I'm 50, Ginger Baker has still not finished his drum solo....
Anyway, NSU completely knocked me for six but I was a bit disappointed there weren't more tracks that powerful though I do also like Cat's Squirrel and Rollin and Tumblin'. It's my favourite Cream album. I think the band worked best with Jack Bruce driving. That quiet verse and then suddenly they smash into the chorus....should have been their debut 45 and I understand it was written for their first rehearsal. Might even be my favourite Cream song.

  13. I voted for I Feel Free, but if Toad did not include a drum solo then that may have gotten my vote.

I didn’t realise the opening track would be such a clear winner. I thought if anything would be it’d be Spoonful, but I actually thought it’d be fairly even across the album.

Always knew Bruce did most vocals.
“Sunshine of Your Love” feature both.

“I Feel Free” is my pick

I don't play Fresh Cream much because it's spotty, like Disraeli Gears it has some stellar tracks and some not-so-hot tracks. My favorite early Cream record is their first French EP. Four great tracks, all of them noticeably different mixes, never issued anywhere else.

    Been listening since the 60s.

    Unable to pick one.

But the way to really hear the awesome sound that is Fresh Cream is in monoraul dialed to 9.5

It is a very powerful listening experience even more so in mono.
