Capitol, Castle, EMI, Raw Power, etc...
Which of them REALLY ROCK soundwise?
With so many reissues I wonder which one sounds the best and is the one to own
The current remasters are compressed. Get the Castle (the 1st reissues) or the Capiols- they are identical soundwise. Castle didn't remaster them when the acquired the rights from Capitol.
The best version are the 2CD Castles w/ a bonus disc of B-sides (these are now OOP).
I managed to get only 'Killers' (including the Maiden Japan EP), through a used-cd store.
I haven't been able to track the rest of them.
By the way, I've read you like Kiss as well. Great.
Two of my favorite bands (Maiden & Kiss), among others
My top 5 are:
DP & its family tree
Then I'm all over the map from Maiden to Joni Mitchell.
My fav bands (in no particular order) are:
and some others I can't recall at this moment.
I know I like the original S/T and Powerslave CD releases better than the remasters, I haven't compared the rest of them - I remember they sounded a bit more than compressed, they sounded very processed to me. The original Powerslave CD (Capitol) sounds awesome, definitely get that one over the remaster. The Live After Death remaster is probably the best of the remasters to get since it includes the missing LP tracks the original CD lacked for space reasons, the remaster is 2-CD.
All of the Maiden discs I own are from the Raw Power releases , excepting one from Castle (Killers). In my cd collection are: Killers, The Number of The Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Live after Death, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
How do the original Japanese black-triangle CDs rate? The bidding on them gets pretty high on eBay.
