I think others here have said good things about it as well. Maybe I'll check it out later. First I want to be sure I like the What's Going On disc I'm looking into, though.
In my experience it's an especially rare disc, so if there's one for sale I'd recommend not passing on it.

Which version of "What's Going On" are you looking at? I also have the original Motown CD for that album. Thanks, I'll listen to it now.
Sorry, I posted track one of What's Going On. since that was the thread title, I thought that was what was being requested. I will post a Let's Get it On sample in a few minutes.
Sure no worries. First impressions of your sample... I would describe it as "hollow", midrange suckout maybe? Either way the Motown is much better.
The 1993 European CD recommended by Andreas and others here. I'm not interested in that original Motown WGO CD, as numerous people here have said the mastering on the twofer is better. And, as I said before, I'm not crazy about the twofer. I'm confident the '93 disc will sound better.
Sample from the aforementioned Twofer, track 10, Let's Get It On: https://www.sendspace.com/file/a39ij5 Waveform of track 10 (appears a bit compressed):
Hmm sounds a bit smiley faced to me, too bass heavy. Once again the Motown is better balanced with more midrange.
Interesting. I just put mine on and I'd say the opposite. The midrange is amazing, the bass is a bit light, though.
I wonder if John Matousek was working with better tapes on the MCC Let's Get It On than Tom Baker had for the twofer? Btw, now that I know that MCC LGIO is so hard to get, I really want it.

Picked this one up today (silver to center) and it has more bass than the two-fer, which makes for a warmer listening experience, but the bass gets a bit boomy on Mercy Mercy Me.
How does it sound compared to the Gavin Lurssen remaster (if you've heard it)? I didn't like the extra bass on the Lurssen at all. Also, does it sound like Matousek was working with higher-generation tapes than Tom Baker had for the two-fer?
Me neither. The Matousek is much more tame in the bass. I think I was a bit too close to the rear wall for my first listen. Moving just a bit forward resulted in a nice tonal balance on the Matousek. I am not sure how to determine that, but the vocals on the Matousek are much better. The two fer sounds more digital next to the Matousek. And the Lurssen is far behind.
That's strange. In the post below I concluded that the German twofer I own contains the Matousek master and is a bit bass shy. Best Sounding "What's Going On"?
This disc has plenty of bass but I wouldn't describe it as "boomy". Actually the MFSL SACD has a lot more bass.
Hi After 170 or so posts is there now a consensus on this ? If so, would you or someone mind summarising what is is e.g. In ranking order. I think that would be really helpful.
