I've seen various threads that mention different vinyl pressings but never a shootout between them.

These are the pressings I know of:

    US TML
    US Sterling
    UK
    Dutch
    Japanese
    other various imports

    and these 'audiophile' pressings:

    CBS Half-speed master
    Japanese CBS Mastersound
    MFSL
    Speakers Corner
    Friday Music

    Any preferred pressings?

I'm particularly interested in hearing about the Sterling vs TML copies. While I've heard the CBS Half-speed is bad, the Japanase Mastersound is supposed to be good, as well as the MFSL. What about the Speakers Corner? I know their pressing of Crime of the Century is superb.

I have a Dutch pressing with Sterling in the deadwax. I would love to hear a pressing with TML in the deadwax because I have a Sterling pressing and a TML pressing of Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years and the TML is sonically superior in every way and anybody I tipped off about this agrees!

I also have a US TML, anyone heard the Sterling? TML sounds very nice and easily beats the UK pressing I had.

I have the Speaker's Corner and the MFSL. I prefer the MFSL.
The SC has some awful noise on the right channel during "Make Believe".

I've heard both the TML and the US Sterling and I think the TML is warmer to the more crisp sounding Sterling copy.

In fact, I don't know how anything could beat the TML. I think it sounds superb. My copy is practically dead silent too.

My keeper copy is a US pressing with "TML" in the deadwax.

  7. How does the Durch pressing rank in there? I could post a sample of it.

My Dutch pressing has Sterling in the deadwax as well, maybe it is the the same pressing which James has referenced in post #2 above.
The liner notes which came with my LP state that the album has been mastered at Sterling. Sounds very nice IMO (and it was dirt cheap), but I have not yet heard the TML mastering.

Speakers Corner! My copy plays perfectly.

What about the Friday Music version? How does that sound compared to the rest?

I found a copy yesterday with TML side one, but side two is from Carrollton.
