What are some of the biggest most dissapointing album purchases you've ever made?

Maybe it was a follow up to a great record and you had high hopes for another masterpiece. Or perhaps it was a back catalog album of an artist you just got into (or were completing your collection)?

Or maybe it was one your heard rave reviews about and was....anything but!

For me a few examples would be:

    • Driving Rain - Paul McCartney
    • Ashes and Roses - Mary Chapin Carpenter
    • Any new Paul Simon album
    Anyone else?

I know it has it's fans, but Tusk springs to mind.

I was disappointed when Humble Pie's Smokin came out. They were never the same after Frampton left. Every album after that was progressively even more disappointing.

Agree on Driving Rain. The only late-period of his album that still leaves me absolutely indifferent.

I'm probably in the minority but Discovery by ELO was a huge disappointment.

Have to agree with Tusk as well. Huge buildup for the release of it, but it really was a letdown of at Rumors.

The Final Cut and Zooropa are toward the top of the list for me. While both have their moments, they are major let downs compared the albums that preceded them.

  12. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band after Revolver.

I didn't buy the LP until 1983. This gave me plenty of time to prepare myself! I bought Mirage, Rumours and then Tusk. I remember being annoyed at the complicated LP packaging with it's multiple inner sleeves and lack of a lyric sheet.

I wasn't expecting Runours 2 by any means, but the album was tough to love. I do like it now, but I don't play it as often as I do the others.

Tour De France Soundtracks by Kraftwerk. Though I will add the caveat that Vitamin from it has become my favourite Kraftwerk track. It has a couple of other decent tracks and lot of boring filler.
