I've been listening to this quite a lot recently and I really like it. In fact unlike others I really like his '80s output.

I think Beethoven's 4th Symphony was a bit of a let down after the Eroica.

I don't agree because I don't consider Victim of Love to be a "big album". Commercially Elton was practically stone cold during that period. The album stinks, but at the time it was barely a blip on the radar. This is in contrast to something like "Tusk" where the masses forked over a lot of money, felt really let down and complained loudly about it.

I know. I read the rave reviews and I think my expectations were overblown.

I was particularly disappointed with Simon Le Bon's singing -- too restrained, processed and buried in the mix for my taste.

Recently I read that he was having problems with his voice at the time, so that could be an explanation

Sandinista after London Calling. I like it ok now, but at the time I just couldn't warm up to it.

The 4th is probably my favorite Beethoven symphony. If there's a letdown, it is minuscule. Does it really belong here? I don't think so.

Very good point...Tusk is not a bad album at all especially when a snarky critic like Robert Christgau gives it a B+. It has a hit in "Sara" which is beautiful, some great rock songs like "Sisters of the Moon" and some quirky songs with weird beats that Lindsey loves to write like "Not that Funny"...in fact, I prefer to play it over Rumours for the sheer fact that I have only heard each one of those songs a thousand times...

I've grown to like "Tusk" quite a lot. The one that bummed me out was "Physical Graffiti'.
The first time I played it, it sounded like ir had about 2 1/2 decent songs on it. Of course
I was on DMT at the time, so mileage may vary.

I can't crap on Be Here Now. It came out at a pivotal moment in my life and I saw three shows on the tour - it soundtracked a fantastic six months.

Of course, I listen to it now about once every three years.

    That said...

    Blur - Think Tank
    Monkees - Justus
Keith Richards - Main Offender (it's just riff-o-rama - where are the songs?)
The new-wavey Strokes album that came out after First Impressions... Angles, maybe?
Oh, yeah - the big one: Kid A

Take it back to the shop and spend another ten years tunin' it up.

Doubt it will be any better, but I may be dead by then.

I feel that I shouldn't list this, as the profits went to a good cause, and I feel good that I have contributed to the homeless. But I can't feel good when I listen to Dylan's Christmas in the Heart. A friend made a comment that he gives it an obligatory play each Christmas, but I find the tracks (with one/two exceptions) too scary to do even that.

Beethoven's 'letdown' symphony is his 10th one.

If I recall there are pieces available of the unfinished Beethoven's 10th.

For me the biggest album disappointment is probably the second album from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They went from a sublime, creative, fun debut to, well, I don't know what it was. Huge bummer.

I now accept it for what it is, no longer compare it to it's greater predecessor, and consider it one of his finest works.

I recently bought used Slow Train,Saved, and Shot Of Love LP's at a GW and gave them a listen. Saved is now my favorite of the 3 but all are good works. The music and message in Saved is powerful and the band sounds so great. I think if you're not saved the depth and emotion of the lyrics doesn't come through but the music and those players....whew!
