I went into a Media Play store near Appleton, WI, and I found -- unadvertised -- four huge racks of CDs marked down to $9.99. Some of these were actually budget thingies that were marked UP (beware of things on the Excelsior label) ... but that was the minority. Most of the others are things that are still in print. I could have spent hundreds catching up on things I missed, but here's what I picked up:

America: The Complete Greatest Hits (Rhino, 2001)
The Monkees: Greatest Hits (Rhino, 1995)
Ray Charles: Anthology (Rhino, 1988 -- ABC-Paramount era material)
The Rolling Stones: Jump Back (Virgin, 1993 import)

    Others I saw included:

    America: History
Ashanti: her hit album from about a year and a half ago
    Bread: The Best of Bread
Vanessa Carlton: the one with "A Thousand Miles" on it
    Dio: Rhino best-of comp
    Dokken: Rhino best-of comp
Doobie Brothers: Best of the Doobies
Doobie Brothers: more recent Rhino comp with single versions
    ELO: Strange Magic (2-CD set!)
    Fleetwood Mac: The Dance
    Fleetwood Mac: Fleetwood Mac
Aretha Franklin: The Very Best of, The 60s
Aretha Franklin: Greatest Hits (more recent comp)
    Michael McDonald: Rhino best-of comp
    Van Morrison: Moondance
    Frank Sinatra: Sinatra Reprise
Frank Sinatra: Love Songs (Columbia comp)
Spinners: The Very Best of (early 90s Rhino comp)
James Taylor: Greatest Hits (CD reissue of the vinyl, not the new one)
Third Eye Blind: debut (with their hits on it)
Randy Travis: Greatest Hits Vol. 2
Dionne Warwick: Rhino best-of (from the 1990s)
    Rob Zombie: Supersexy Swingin' Sounds

And that's only what I remember.... Some of them seemed to have slightly cracked cases, but those are easily replaceable. Most of these I haven't seen less expensive except the first week they came out and/or used. It's worth a look if there's a Media Play near you.
