Big Star: Rhino "Box Set"*

With the current price people susceptible to headaches from sound can use the money they saved for Advil, Tylenol.

 

I can't get over how incredible this box set is. Maybe the favorite in my collection!

 

I liked the box set but didn't like the box set - if that makes any sense.

On one hand I was glad something like that was released.

On the other hand the mastering was loud and previously released tracks appeared on the box set and there were some mixes where they reversed the left and right channels. In other words a song like 'Try Again' might start with an acoustic guitar in the left speaker now starts in the right speaker.

Weird stuff like that.

Also it was nice to have the live 4th disc - but this was edited (unfortunately).

And lastly - no DVD of the 20 minute silent footage Chris and Andy shot of the band rehearsing for #1 Record. I'm sure someone at Ardent could have synced the video to the corresponding audio (if there is any to be synced to).
