I was kinda hoping there wouldn't be a 3rd, but Dan Aykroyd disagrees:

Can't this franchise rest in the 80s?

Glad to hear it. Now I'm more optimistic about it being a better movie without him (assuming it ever actually gets made).

It's been in Development Hell for something like 15 years now, so I wouldn't count on it happening.

Nope. He's simply not needed to make a quality Ghostbusters movie- not at this point, anyway.

I had read somewhere where Murray wouldn't sign on unless his character was killed off (and he would return as a ghost). Wondering if the script had anything to do with this backing out.

As in a new generation of actors in the film? Or a new generation of movie audiences? They may "pass on it"...

Who says you have to move on? Dan, didn't you learn anything from Blues Brothers 2000?

Crazy! You better have a better script than the last one...

Notice how 2's performance wasn't mentioned? :D Awful sequel...

Gotta be honest, he and Rick Moranis are the only reasons I find either of the first two films even watchable...

Some of the names bandied about for a Ghostbusters 3 reboot include Andy Samberg, Seth Rogan, and/or Jason Segal. Pretty much every 30-something comic actor out there is being mulled over as the new crew to replace the "retiring" original Ghostbusters.

But it'll be a very, very hard movie to pull off. This essay from Deadline Hollywood summarizes the problems very succinctly:

    The Challenge of Sequelizing 'Ghostbusters'

Note also that over a year ago, Bill Murray had an hour-long telephone interview with Howard Stern and confessed he had received the script but hadn't even read it. I suspect that Bill wants to move forward and do new things, and knows that whatever they do, it'll inevitably be compared to the previous movies and people will criticize them. The chances of doing a better film than the first film are maybe 100 to 1 against.

  18. Guess Ackroyd's booze business isn't working out so well, if he's pushing a desperation move like this...

Since the only movies being greenlit these days are sequels, reboots, and flat out copies of old blockbusters, I wouldn't be surprised if this limps in production and ends up being a catastrophic mess.

Murray would be wise not to get involved, IMO.

Between the Vodka business and the 13 House of Blues bars/concert venues, I think Dan does OK. I don't think he desperately needs anything; I think he honestly believes there's another story to tell with the Ghostbusters.

Smart move, Bill. Smart move. This will have Blues Brothers 2000 written all over it.
