FOX's Roger Friedman sure is sloppy. It's odd that he credited "Oh My My" to Ringo Starr and the All Starr Band. And Preston didn't have an album titled "Outa-Space." He won a Grammy for his "Outa-Space" instrumental. That song came from his "I Wrote a Simple Song" album.

    Way too young. :(

He made many great contributions to some classic records. A very sad day.

Thanx! That guy's writing drives me nuts ... he's a glorified gossip columnist.

What a great loss. I'm glad that I had the pleasure and the honor to shake the man's hand and say 'Thank you'.

    :(

  10. Wow, I'm shocked. I didn't know he was that sick. Yes, 59 is too young. :(

Wow what a shock. I first noticed Billy when he played on Shindig. I remember thinking he looked a bit like Frankenstein. He was a great musician and will be missed.

    RIP Billy Preston.

I think he did jail time for blow, didn't he?
He was a talented individual. I always loved Will It Go Round in Circles.

Wow, that's too bad. Sad news, indeed. I met Billy about 2 years ago at a Beatlefest convention here in NJ. I shook his hand, got his autograph, & talked for a few minutes. He seemed like a real nice guy. RIP, Billy, & God bless you.

Everyone's got a few skeletons in their closet. It hardly matters at this point. :shake:

Kidney failure was surely due to his hypertension (and probably diabetes). The small blood vessels of the kidney and eyes can suffer damage due to uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes.

Sad news. I wish the best for his family.

Lots of talk about his Beatles connection, but didn't he also play with Ray Charles in the sixties? The man had talent. His performance was one of the highlights at the "Concert For George".

Thank you. I'm a medical ignoramus, and wondered whether he'd succumbed to the bottle like so many gigging musicians. Like I say, a shame.

I just watched "Sessions with Robert J" an Eric Clapton blues video on PBS and Billy Preston was playing organ on about 4 songs. He looked good then. I believe it was filmed in 2004.
    It's real sad.

    Very sad.

I remember seeing Billy when he toured with the Rolling Stones. He was a real showstopper. The crowds loved him.

He was supposed to be on the last Clapton concert tour but missed most (or all) of it due to illness.
