Intervention records have announced pre-orders for Billy Squire's Don't Say No on 180 gram from RTI and a hybrid SACD. Set to be released in December. Mastered by Kevin Gray. I'll be getting the SACD as usual. These guys have been doing a fantastic job on the SACDs and I certainly hope to see more of them from this (Re)Discover series. Anyone else up for it! "Intervention Records is thrilled to present Billy Squier's 1981 rock anthem, Don't Say No. The classic rock staple catapulted Squier's career to new heights. His live shows became arena rock sensations and four tracks from this album became classic rock radio staples in heavy rotation today: "In the Dark," "The Stroke," "My Kind of Lover" and "Lonely is the Night." The original LP art has been restored by IR's Tom Vadakan to a beautiful single-pocket gatefold and the Old-Style, "Tip-On" LP jacket will be printed by Stoughton. The Hybrid CD/SACD will be housed in a super jewel box. Don't Say No was 100% Analog mastered by Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio from the original master tapes! Gray's remastering is revelatory in opening the soundstage up to massive proportions while providing superior 3D imaging and musical microdetail. The hybrid SACD was mastered directly from analog tape to DSD." More here... Intervention Records | Albums
Awesome album. One of my first records bought with my own money in 1981! I will buy the SACD with my own money in 2018.
Billy used to fine venues when they spelled his last name like that! I don’t think he does it anymore.
May get the vinyl version, beats the beater copy my dad's had for decades (fun fact: it will skip approximately 5 times on every other song, only Lonely Is The Night and The Stroke will play properly. No joke.)
I have an autographed copy of the original that is NM. Well, OK, it's not autographed to me. I found it at 1/2 Price Books about 8 years ago and it's autographed to Steve or Scott or something like that. It does have Billy's signature though and I assume after having it signed Steve/Scott never played it again thinking he really had something of value only to sell it to 1/2 Price Books decades later for likely $.50. Cool as all that is, I still can't wait for the Intervention reissue. I know Shane and Kevin will do this up right. I wonder if Billy would sign mine.
I like how Intervention includes photos of the master tapes on the product page, as well as mastering notes. Every audiophile-oriented record label should do the same! So these master tapes have been baked three times? How many times can recording tapes be baked? Looks like they were baked in June 2017, presumably for Kevin Gray to do his direct-to-DSD and vinyl transfers. I wonder when Capitol's digital archive to 32bit/192kHz was done (just curious), and if that was the source of the 24bit/192kHz HDTracks downloads? Craig.
