Here's what's currently up on Amazon US:

    Black Sabbath - opaque red
    Paranoid - opaque blue
Master of Reality - reissue not yet shown on Amazon
    Vol 4 - opaque orange
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - opaque blue
    Sabotage - translucent purple
    Technical Ecstasy - white
    Never Say Die - gray

Let the conjecture regarding sources, mastering, the reason Master of Reality is currently a no-show, etc. commence.

  2. I'm happy with my Rhino reissues from 2010. The only thing that bugs me is "War Pigs", which starts at a very quiet volume for the first three minutes or so. Wonder if the new reissue will fix that.

I think Sabbath leads the modern era in vinyl re-issues....that catalog has been raked for cash like no other. I have no need for these.

The recent masterings of the first three are considered the best of the reissues, correct? I still havent bought any of those. If these are also great sounding, I might go for it.

The tape glitch on Sabotage also bugs, considering the rest of it sounds so great.

Masters Of Reality was being advertised on Acoustic Sounds as being pressed on green vinyl.

If the first 3 are the same ****ty Ron McMaster mastered versions like the rhino's they can keep em. The new Sean Magee ones released recently with the bonus material are the ones you want for the first 3.

I thought Paranoid was mastered by Kevin Gray in the Rhino series.

I can't remember honestly but I did not like it, plus the drop out in war pigs start, probably the only thing he's done I did not like. Also isn't the US tapes used instead of the UK?

Yeah, they used the US tapes for the Rhinos, which also explains the dropout on Sabotage.

This volume issue on War Pigs is even on my old US WB green label. This bothers me as well. The 2016 deluxe 2LP version of Paranoid reportedly uses the UK tapes and fixes this problem.

It doesn't explain it. The dropout isn't there on previous US versions whether LP or CD.

Also, the original UK LP of Sabotage was cut at Sterling in NY, so assuming the master is in the UK doesn't really add up, IMO.

As I understood it, the US tape has gotten damaged at some point. That's what I meant.

    Ok. You might be right.

Anyway, that dropout is exclusive to the Rhino reissue LP. I sure hope it was a glitch and is not now on the tape itself.

I have the purple box from a few years ago (it was on black vinyl and came with a hard cover book). As I recall a couple needed the Vinyl Flat to fix warps, but other than that, they sounded good. What is the consensus on the sound quality of that box set?

It's thankfully not on the Autorip mp3s from Amazon for the new reissue. These sound pretty good, too. Not audibly brickwalled.

I would presume that these are repressings of the Deluxe Editions sans bonus discs for the first three and color repressings of the previous Rhino LP's for the remainder.

Will there be a UK/EU counterpart?

Since we are in this Sabbath reissues debate, which ones should I buy? US Rhino from 2010/2011 or EU Sanctuary from 2015?
