I think these new 2016's are an improvement over the 2009's. Im used to hearing the black box and the 2016 have added a little high end sparkle that was missing on the previous deluxe editions.

Nice that they used the WB Green labels . It's enough of a distraction to make me overlook the crushed spies.

A cheap alternative to get the first album from superior tapes is Attention Black Sabbath Vol 1 and 2.
You want the copies with this label. Those two will give you the first album some of Paranoid and MOR.

Now no-one has to whinge about Paranoid's sound on CD any more. Great remastering. All 3 arrived yesterday. Not bothering with acquiring Past Lives again unless there is good news of them being more than just a reissue of the UMC release..

I wish they'd put out something we haven't heard, like a vintage show that isn't circulating.

  12. I think that is accurate, Or anyone who has the UMC past lives deluxe and the 2016 Rhino done any comparison? I bought the three and left PL on the wish list just in case.

LOL - it's a bit hard to be in synch when living 268 kms South of the world's most isolated city.

  19. Hi John, just curious. Did you obtain these in Australia or did you import them? I inquired about them at my local record store and was told that they are not on Warner Brothers release schedule here in New Zealand. I find this bizarre given Sabbath are touring here in a few months!?

Imported 'em via Import CDs. In Australia, you would be getting the older Sanctuary releases from 2009, due to the different label in the USA (Warners) vs everywhere else (Sanctuary). This has always been the case with Black Sabbath. It's the first time the UK Paranoid master tape (or as close to it as we're ever going to get) has been used for a US release. All US Warners issues up to this point have used the original faulty tape transfer provided by Vertigo to Warners, or a slightly corrected version of that same tape (the Black Box version of that tape). The sound is a vast improvement over the original Warners Paranoid as well as the Black Box version, and a less astounding difference between this latest release and the almost identical looking 2009 release.
In summary, they won't be on a Warners release schedule in Australia.

I saw that Marbecks had the 2016 Paranoid DE in stock on their website yesterday. However, I haven't done business with them since they started up business again.

Anybody else replacing the 2009 deluxe S/T and Paranoid notice the annoying dis-similarities in packaging?

The album cover icons at the top of the spines for all the 2009's have been removed for the 2016 editions. Also, the nice wide booklet inside was considerably downsized.

    :(

I might have to just put the new better-sounding 2016 discs inside the 2009 packaging (even though the tracklistings are different for the debut).

Anyone know if the new Past Lives is better than the original?
