Uh oh! I bought a SCAD player on Sunday and then on Tuesday I read that BMG may throw its support to DVD-A. http://www.audiorevolution.com/news/0802/30.bmgdvda.shtml Maybe I should have waited for a universal player. Oh well, the SCAD player was only $199.
You did the right thing, don't sweat it. Look at how many SACDs Steve is working on or are due out momentarily. Then look at how many DVD-A projects he's mentioned. Even if you want DVD-A sometime, the way it stands now you can get a separate DVD-A and a separate SACD for considerably less than a combo. The combos I've heard about have either gotten bad reviews or are too expensive or were promised but have been cancelled or haven't shown up. I'm not saying there can't be a good combo ever, just that you might have a long wait for an ideal unit.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but most of the Sony units are mostly universal, meaning they play DVD, SACD, CD, VCD, and even mp3. But, no DVD-A...
Mine does not do mp3. I think that the Sony will play DVD-A discs in Dolby Surround 5.1 (not DVD-A hi rez), but I haven't tried it yet.
