"He was just a very smooth operating bluesman. His songs always reminded me of… as trains, but that's just my hang up, you know, trains. And his vocal style, and his sound seems to fit right in with that lonesome sound. His kinda, you know, Ragtime kinda thing on a 12 string guitar, so it made everything he did sound, you know, give it a little higher pitch. You know, you could probably call…you could probably call…you could probably say he was the Van Gogh of Blues. You could probably say he was the Van Gogh of the Country Blues."
...and one from 24 years later. Bob Dylan - Full Concert - 12/04/88 - Oakland Coliseum Arena (OFFICIAL)
Bootleg Series 11 (Basement Tapes). Presently listening to Basement Tapes Disc 3 which has amazing stuff on it. Some of the "clutter"--wacky experiments, if you like--put me off this collection, but, for the most part, it's quite brilliant. I wish there was a really good tight 4 CD collection (2 CD version is duff).
Good choices, JRM. Two brilliant concerts from Dylan's 1965 tour of England. The tour deserves a thread of its own. I think that thread will be coming soon.
Bob Dylan - Debut Album + 12 bonus tracks by Bob Dylan: Amazon.co.uk: Music Are all of these bonus tracks available on the various Bootleg series releases?
Have always had a special like for "Slow Train Coming", especially since it was recorded right up the road from home. But then a friend found me a Japanese pressing for under $20 last month and I begain listening to it again. Which led me to purchasing an SACD version two weeks ago. And began listening to it again, "Precious Angel" being my favorite cut. Mark Knopfler and Pick Withers do a fine job, don't they?
Right now listening to a playlist of non album tracks from 74-81 era. Man he was good in these years....made me realise I want a BOTT set after the Gospel one....
