You’re timing is excellent. The last notes of “Like a Rolling Stone” have just finished.

The sound quality is generally excellent. I haven’t A-B’d it against my original vinyl/MP3s. There are a few brief flutters/dropouts inherent to the source material, and the odd track that doesn’t quite share the same fidelity as the others, e.g. “Maggie’s Farm”. Overall, it flows very well as a compilation. I can see this getting regular rotation chez Peanut.

That’s amazing! Translated perfectly, good words and bad.

How's the mix on It Takes A Lot to Laugh from Newport '65? The mp3 version that came with Big Blue was OK, but it could have been better.

Thanks for that. I was hoping they juiced it up a little, but hopefully the CD will provide at least a small improvement over the mp3.

Do we know yet if they were sourced from the mp3?

I haven't read anything yet about the sourcing for this set. Maybe @stepeanut could share the mixing/mastering credits from the liner notes?

This resolves whatever confusion there might have been about "Ballad of a Thin Man"-- definitely Edinburgh.

I haven’t ripped the discs, and I’m unlikely to anytime soon. Bit busy with family commitments at the moment to be analysing waveforms, but I’m sure it’ll all come out in the wash.

Interesting! I had assumed this was compiled by Sony Japan, perhaps under the watchful eye of Heckel Sugano who has had a hand in previous Japan-originated titles like Live at Budokan, The Mr D's Collections, and the 39 Years of Great Concert Performances CD. But no, this came from the US team. Wonder if it was always intended to be a worldwide release, or if the immediate rush of import orders inspired them to quickly adjust course? I still haven't seen a US press release, or even a news alert on Bobdyan.com about it's impending release.

Who is Heckel Sugano? Here's him telling the story of how he got pulled into Dylan's orbit:

"....The first show I attended was at Chicago Stadium in 1974...."

I know someone else not a million miles away from this thread who can also say this.

How many roads must a man walk down? Not so many, it seems...:)

@DeeThomaz was at one of those Chicago shows, with Heckel Sugano? Really? That lucky so-and-so...;)

He would have been all of one year old at the time, held in the arms of his Tough Mama, had she chosen to venture to Chicago for the show (alas, she did not).

I was actually trying to find another article by him that I dimly recalled that went into more detail on how he compiled the various Mr D’s Collections. It’s possible my memory was in error, in any case.

To tie things all together, here's a Japanese collection with a cover photo of Dylan taken (if I'm not mistaken) at the Chicago concert on Jan. 3, 1974, perhaps compiled by Heckel Sugano?

And another. Had someone just shouted the "J" word by any chance, HR?
