"Slow Train Sundays" from BobDylanVevo on You Tube continue with Slow Train from 16 Nov 1979. Can't seem to embed it though... Bob Dylan - Slow Train (San Francisco, CA - Nov. 16, 1979) [Audio]
I'm biased. 11-16-79 was the first Gospel show I ever heard, and it has never been bumped from the top spot for me. Dylan's vocal seems equally well captured on the audience tape and this soundboard tape, but the instruments really come through on the soundboard tape, particularly the intricacy of the guitar playing. And at least we get a few words of wisdom from Bob to kick off the box!
If this is a fair indication of the general sound quality of the live tapes, the 2CD live compilation is going to be fantastic.
What a great performance. "Slow Train" is one of those songs I can listen to over and over -- really getting excited about this box! I expect it to be exactly as it is in the video. Why put a teaser track out in mono if you're trying to drum up excitement for the box?
Sorry to go off-topic briefly, but is this (Bob's cover of Tom Petty's "Learning To Fly" from this weekend) indicative of Bob's singing lately? Because he sings the heck out of this song, with a control and range that I hadn't heard outside the Sinatra albums. I hope there is a professionally shot and recorded version of this!
Hey Johnny, welcome to the forum! Folks, we have a new Dylan expert onboard, and nice guy too. Johnny - Looking forward to hear you october 26th and watch "Trouble No More" in Oslo konserthus.
It’s funny that it says STEREO on the picture on the front of the box. I’m sure the box will be a mix of stereo and mono recordings. I hope most of it is in stereo though.
Thanks, I should have checked first, but someone had already posted the video, which gave me the window. But I'll check out that thread.
This is indicative of his singing lately. I saw twelve shows in Europe this spring and Bob´s vocals was great through them all. There is of course always some songs he puts more soul into than others, but all the shows had such moments.
Yeah I was surprised how great he sounded on here. I found a couple more links/videos for this: and a smaller part of the song here: Bob Dylan- Learning to Fly Cover I hope there's a professionally shot and recorded one of this too, at least a high quality recording!
Just read your blog on the gospel years. Some good info on the gospel years with good songs embedded in the article. Sorry i cant put a link to it but do recommend it.
