I think the more complete answer there is because they start grooming them at 15 and keep them strung along until they finally decide that they might want to settle down a bit (or realize they no longer have the cachet to pull 15 year olds). The whole insistence that a man ~23 years her senior was only her really good friend and she ALWAYS slept in the other room was a bit shaky.

I think I buy it. If she had a physical think going on with Bob I don't think she would have been cool with sleeping over and seeing ladies coming in and out of his room as she described. The question of why Bob would want to maintain a relationship with a 15 yr old is another matter. I was 15 when I was going to shows and I certainly didn't get to hang with Bob. At the end of the day I am glad it worked out. They seem like they are happy and have a great family.

Just saw it, was never a fan of Bob Weir, but I was really touched by this film. He seems like such a solid guy. A very lucky one as well.

This is a weirdly salacious, pimpy-minded post.

By this logic, Neal Casady likely turned out Bob Weir, who was himself only 16 when he joined the Grateful Dead, in some sick hippie sex cult thing.

In other words, more like fan-fiction porn than what really happened.

  5. I'm not a fan of The Dead but I found the movie enjoyable. The only thing I didn't like was in the last 1/4 or so when it seemed to focus on Garcia far too much on a movie that is supposed to be centered on Weir. But again, overall very enjoyable.

I don't have Netflix, so I checked out the trailer on youtube. The line They say that blood is thicker than water and what we had was thicker than blood, combined with my three shelves of CDs is more than enough. I'm not sure I need to see the rest.

The groupies and hangarounds where young back then. And you can't compare with a 15 year old today. They are much more childish now.

But still, 15 is pretty young yeah

I enjoyed this much more than I expected to. I haveread most of the major books on the Dead but this gave me a great deal of insight to Bob that I didn't have previously. He is a real thinker and seems like a very decent person.

He gets overshadowed by Jerry so it was good to see the focus on him. The parts about his guitar playing and approach to music were very very good. I wish there had been a little more emphasis on that but on the whole it was a great watch and well done.

What song / jam is the Dead playing at the 32-minute mark?

I liked hearing about Bob's guitar playing style and seeing his studio and old Gibson 335. The family stuff at the end was ok, nice to see him happy about something.

Just got done watching this. I loved it; the last half hour I was choking back tears. Really sad stuff turned poignant for Bob and his family.

Great movie. Some really cool footage too. We'll probably watch it again while it's still on Netflix.

Watched this last weekend. Boy, what a life huh? I should have been in a band :nyah:

I really didn't know much about Bob's input into the Dead. And I thought I had heard years ago that they were already together when he joined, but this documentary says otherwise. I really dig it and will probably watch it again sooner than later.

He was there in '65 with the others. Their first record came out in '67.

Weir's rhythm guitar was essential. He dis lots of great stuff live but when you got Garcia as the other axe man you tend to stay in the background

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

Probably inevitable given Bob's high regard for and strong friendship with Jerry. You can't fully understand Bob without that dimension. And what an interesting musical collaboration-another example of the whole greater than the sum of the parts IMHO.
