Now, WHY can't Hollywood make a teen film this good??? Another find from our local arts cinema's Jewish Film Festival. Centers on a high school boy who's seen as a bit of a doofus in school, and to most of his family...he is, actually, some sort of a math whiz. And damn fine chef. And wiser than his years. But, just like on Arrested Development, the rest of the family have issues and quirks that slow him down by solving all their crises for them. The neighbor girl (an Israli Anne Hathaway) and his senility-bound grandfather are in his corner, and his principal discovers his potential and tries to get him into an advanced school. It's sweet and funny, and small enough to be the kind of product that could make some money here in the states, instead of they way we do it (throwing huge piles of cash into star power and opulent mansions full of rich people you can't possibly care about).
