Just thought I would spread the word that NOW SOUNDS is issuing Book A Trip 2: More Psych Pop Sounds of Capitol Records. The various-artists CD is shipping to customers in the first week of November.

    • THE LONG-AWAITED FOLLOW-UP!
    • 24 TRACKS—MOST FIRST TIME ON CD!
    • 24-PAGE BOOKLET INCLUDES RARE PHOTOS!
    • TRACK-BY-TRACK WITH INVOLVEMENT OF ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS/SONGWRITERS and/or PRODUCERS!
    • INCLUDES SESSIONOGRAPHY INFO WHERE AVAILABLE!
    • ALL SOURCED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES!

Once more, NOW SOUNDS raids the Capitol Records vaults in Hollywood for late-’60s psychedelic pop/sunshine pop obscurities and unearths even more first-time-on-CD gems. All sourced from ORIGINAL MASTERS, these original Capitol singles are circa 1965–1970. Productions by the likes of MICHAEL LLOYD collide with arrangements by MORT GARSON and GENE PAGE and compositions by HARRY NILSSON, DONOVAN, and KIM FOWLEY, and performances by many legendary Wrecking Crew members, proving why Capitol Records was the undisputed leader of pop during this pivotal era. The full-colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and extensive track-by-track liner notes that feature the participation of many original band members, songwriters, and producers.

Hmm, I have a fair few LP's by quite a few of the acts on that.
For instance the Sugar Shoppe were produced by Al De Lory and arranged by Mort Garson, nice record as well.

More really great period-and-label-correct homage artwork and happily another list of mostly obscure songs.

Every new Now Sound release is like an event to me. The first Book A Trip compilation is one of the very few CDs I play to get me into a very 'sunshiny' mood. It's good to know that this compilation is getting a 'companion' and hope there'll be a vol. 3, a vol 4 and so on!:)

Great compilations. What I really appreciate is the odd Canadian track. Have you ever considered Pepper Tree - Capitol recording artist with an LP (released in the USA too) and several singles? I don't think any of their music has ever appeared on CD.

Great news. All the Now Sounds releases are worth getting, not heard a bad one yet. Will order today if possible.

Hope we've got some Turtles in the pipeline?

Any chance there will be more Capitol comps to follow this one? I always want more.

Can't wait. And Ian Witcomb's "The End" is a stunner. Keep up the stellar work, Mr. Stanley.
& kudos to Alan Brownstein 'cause the Now Sounds stuff has been sounding great.

Yes, Jason. The Chris & Craig song is called "I Can't Go On" and was recorded around the time of "Isha."

I haven't heard of most of these songs or artists, except for the two Canadian ones (I highly recommend the Staccatos' big hit Half Past Midnight. the follow-up Didn't Know the Time and the LP track Fancy Dancin' Man, among others), and Ian Whitcomb. Jessie Lee Kincaid wrote Baby You Come Rollin' Cross My Mind for the Peppermint Trolley Company, which was contemporary, so I presume he was involved with that band.

Hi John: Jesse Lee Kincaid and the PTC shared the same producer (Dan Dalton). That's how the band heard "Baby You Come Rollin'." That being said, Danny Faragher of the PTC plays trombone on Jesse's cut "Masquerade."

I bought the first CD, it was terrific, so I am definitely up for this one. Virtually all the songs are new to me, though I have heard of a few of the artists. The version of "October Country" by the Raw Edge looks interesting, I love the version by
the October Country that was originally on Epic Records.

Thanks, Cliff, for your support! Glad you enjoyed the first volume. I think Book A Trip 2 may be even better. Let me know your thoughts when you've had a chance to listen. Do you have the CD reissue of October Country that I produced in 2003?

Yes I do have the October Country CD! I purchased it back around 2005. The song "October Country" was one I had been looking for since I heard it on the radio back in the late 60s. I found the 45 after years of looking and was surprised to see the
name of the band and song were the same.

I've heard the Smoke version online, didn't know there was yet another version until I saw this thread. I can't wait to hear it!
