Great album... what exactly is "Jewish" about it?

I can't quite come to think of any song remotely like Save the Life of My Child. Shouty streetwise lyrics, psychedelic gospel choir vocals and a buzzing, primitive Moog synthesizer backing the whole thing up. This album still holds up. It showcases all that great's about the duo and then some.

and sadly, the original mono mix has been unavailable for the last 50 years as well:)

How about celebrating with a CD release of the mono version! Bonus tracks could be the single mixes.

Huh? What specifically? I think it's a little strange to pigeonhole the album as "Jewish".

Some great songs on it but that bit of "oirish" music and the spoken interlude in the middle of "Fakin' It" is excruciating, for that reason I tend to give it a wide berth.

I find “Breakfast in America” more Jewish than Bookends.

As is oddly often the case for me, the opening track is my least favorite. After that, however, nothing but brilliance. Bookends is my favorite Simon and Garfunkel album.

It sounds Fiddler on the Roof-ish to me.

  20. Interesting & accurate observation- in that I am guessing that you are referring to the fact that side one is an intentional grouping of songs (S & G- kind of a suite from birth to death songs of passing of time, literally Bookends... Beatles- the film/Merry Pranksters concept) & side two is filled out by singles (& left over other songs?- IIRC) from that era.

"Bookends" & "Bridge Over Troubled Water" are my fave Beatles still active era albums by an American artist...using The Beatles influence they (S & G, but mainly Paul
Simon... all due respect to the partnership with Art & Roy Halee) integrated it to expand & grow, but integrated it so seamlessly, that it never sounds like they are aping/imitating, but rather embodying The Beatles Spirit (exploration & eclecticism) to create something unique & their own.

Would LOVE for the Mono mix to be released with some deluxe version celebrating my second favorite album of 1968

    Love this line
“I’m a ‘Citizens for Boysenberry Jam' fan" - not cringe worthy IMO

Anyway regardless it's a brilliant album and IMO the best 60's American album
