This image is of the UK edition with the GEM logo - and you're correct - the UK and US logos are different sizes, and the US original info (Catalogue number, logo "A Gem Production") have all been covered over, and all are discernible.
And that's why a HI-Res image ( but the whole RH top quarter) is necessary to investigate. Using image editing software and filters one can much more easily read the numbers above the UK catalogue #. "0 2 ......" Need the whole quarter cover so to reference the lettering positioning of the cover notes. (This same referencing method uncovers the changes made to the rear cover credits on the UK David Live (different font size), the reinsertion of the 'lost first line' of Cracked Actor in the US lyric sheet to Aladdin Sane, and so on)
I picked up the NL-13844 release over the weekend seeing that the deadwax had NL-14623 etched but crossed out, and I agree - this sounds great to me.
I also have a 3T Bobil/Rasputin, Titanic credits with no logos and a laminated front. So I believe that's a genuine first press. Relative to the karmaman photo, my Gem logo is very conclusive - if you squint. There's also another smaller RCA logo obscured by the usual blocky white RCA logo (bottom RH corner). Then, at bottom LH, beneath the RCA London address and "(C) 1971 RCA Limited" line, it clearly has the NYC RCA details and reads "printed in U.S.A." My close-up photographic skills and equipment are average at best but I can try and post something if there's enough demand. Cheers, DD
I have the 2E/3E pressing. Chrysalis/Titanic credits and no Mainman. Side 2 also has rasputin but I can't see bobil on side 1. Life On Mars sounds duller than my green label RCA International copy which is definitely a different cut when compared side by side as the grooves are different widths.
all RCA International cuts were new AFAIK. cut by "Bilbo at Tape One". they tend to be brighter/livelier than earlier pressings.
Can someone please tell me what issue of Hunky Dory I have, been looking on discogs and literally going crazy trying to find it. UK Press. RCA Victor SF8244 (LSP4623) APRS 5947-2E (stamped) A2V (etched) - side one ARPS 5948-3E (etched) ALO (etched) - side two Sleeve non-laminated, RCA Victor orange labels. Comes with lyric sheet. I know it's a repress but just don't know which one. Thanks
I have an early 80s RCA and a 1990 Rykodisc on LP. The Ryko version is a great reissue in my opinion.
I have a Ryko 90s Ziggy ,Hunky andSpaceOddity the trouble is that there are too many tracks on each side, unlike the clear vinyl that has another record, btw does the Green label international vinyl sound better than the 1st pressing ?
Tried wood glue, but can you imagine the damage to the needle if you don't get all the wood glue off the record!
Have rca 2e 3e pressing no mainman very dull and flat 1 side.also have green rca and black label with barcode at back I prefer that pressing more engaging
The 2E is stamped while the 3E is handwritten, right? If I'm reading correctly, side 1 is the duller of the two?
