    Dave,

I don't know if I should thank you or curse you. You have single-handedly contributed to my spending of hundreds of dollars in the past few weeks to pick up more "non-remastered" CDs. :)

Well, off to find some new Bowie discs, thanks man.

Have any of you found the third mastering of the Bowie catalog on Virgin to be more correct. They blow the Ryko's away, they had absolutely no bottom end. The Vigin releases have a better balanced sound , mabey still a bit bright but the extended bottom makes up for it. Also the One Size Zappa AU20 is eq'ed to sound more dynamic and roomier than the original LP. I though the LP was going to blow the socks off the CD but it turned ou the other way.

Gee Sam are you sure you're not related to my wife? She's been saying the same thing ever since I made her listen MFSL's Bryan Adams: Reckless and Pink Floyd: The Wall.

Happy hunting, get em' now... or forever pay more.;)

I'm not sure about "more correct" but on my system, the Virgin Bowies just suck. :( I can really distinguish the no-noising, digital sound on them. The Rykos are better. I only have a CDR of an RCA Ziggy but it's the best in the CD world. On my system.

What bugged me about the Virgins most is that they were so, so lifeless. I put on my old RCA LP and it was amazing.

I've since sold the Virgin. :D

On the contrary my good friend...

MFSL only made The Wall in UD1.;)

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

I hated the Rykos - they sounded nothing like UK RCA vinyl - way too thin (ie mid range boosted).
The Virgin releases did a lop sided smiley EQ job (ie boosted the bass beyond what I remember and boosted the treble way too far) I still prefer the Virgins to the Ryko (haven't heard any RCA CDs however)

    Dave,

I actually have the "Reckless" MFSL. Whew....here's a place I can actually admit it! Seriously, its a great disc, but I don't have the original aluminum to compare it to. Huge difference, Dave?

Oh yes Sam there definately is a big difference. BTW is yours the UD1 (like mine) or the UD2 (use to own it)?

I could've sworn I quoted you referring to Reckless, not The Wall...my mistake.

    Dave,

My Reckless is a UD2 UDCD544. Is this not as good as a UD1? I knew Mofi switched to UD2's, but why would so many titles you guys refer to have a UD1 and UD2 pressing, and what's the difference?

Boy, does THAT ever depend on who you ask! Personally, I am unconvinced there is a difference, but I have yet to compare a UD1/UD2 DSOTM, which supposedly shows the biggest difference.

I'm sure that Dave will be happy to enlighten you (or at least give you HIS opinion).

Actually Dob I was only answering The Wall in hopes that Sam wouldn't ask me MY opinion. Anyways, yes it was the UD2 version that my wife heard the first time, but it was traded for the UD1 version earlier this year.

Sam, basically the Adams UD1 sounds like a very thin veil has been removed frpm the overall sound as is the case with all that I've compared so far with the exception of DSOTM where the differences are extreme. But IMHO the Adams masters could have been a lot better.

Sam, all Gold Cd info is available at http://www.pestosoft.com/gold/

    Enjoy.;)

That's a Monty Python reference. The waiter feeds the guy a thin mint and he projectile vomits all over the place. Remember that one? :)

P.S. Actually, he vomits before eating the mint. :hurl: He explodes after eating the mint.

Damn, I blew it! I guess I should keep my day job. Now would be a good time for a Rupert Pupkin reference. "Mom! I'm working down here!"
