Well, this could be something. After the disappointment of the Tug of War deluxe set (an inferior remix, an old CD we already own, and decidedly uninteresting bonus tracks), I was about to give up on the McCartney Archive releases, but I guess I'm back in.

You have a different CD to everyone else then! :)

Listen to the word "forces" at the time mentioned, you'll hear the song skips a tiny beat, as though a brief portion of the song has been edited out.

This doesn't make any sense. Hi-res is called "hi-res" for a reason. A much higher resolution than the dead CD format was ever designed for. Regarding compression, as pointed out the CD masters of these series have more limiting than the hi-res files...

I think there weren't any limited hi-res versions for this release, so that means a noticeable dip in volume if you would just make a CD copy of the hi-res files for this one track.

I fixed the limited version myself at the time, DM if anyone has interest in that.

Wow, well I am guessing and hoping Fall 2016 for this???? Still at least one or two tracks at the least ("My Brave Face", "Put It There") could have been remastered and then included in "Pure McCartney".

Yeah. My only concern is that it will contain only one or two Costello demos, and everything else on the bonus disc will have been previously released on 12" singles or CD singles (there were a ton of them).

That's the big danger with this Archive set and any of albums newer than FITD, that pretty much everything apart from the odd 7" only release has had a digital release already.

I'm less concerned than I normally would be about this. I believe Costello recently commented in an interview about a "forgotten" song from their sessions having recently been run by him, so that makes me think they'll be fairly comprehensive with the demos here. Frankly, as long as we get "So Like Candy" in better quality than the Vigotone boot, I'll be happy!

    PS Welcome back Arnie!

I haven't posted recently in this thread and still I'm being welcomed back. Was there a "coming soon" card announcing my imminent arrival back? ;)

Wait, don't you mean "We All Stand Together" needs to be the forum theme song? Ahh, who am I kidding, we can't agree on anything around here. :)

yeah I would guess at least a few demos because clearly Paul/Mpl consulted with Costello and his people. That is fine, "Flowers" was kind of the last of Paul's albums to have so many different mixes/singles, even though "Off The Ground" did have a few as well!

The Song We Were Singing is a good song, but The World Tonight is a rare late-Macca rocker, which is why it stands out.

But I think the first UK single from "Pie" "Young Boy" with help from Steve Miller is one of the catchiest songs Paul has done in the last twenty years. The hook is infectious and should have been an easy choice on "Pure McCartney". It is ironic that Paul did 2 tracks with Steve "Guitar" Miller and neither of them made "Pure McCartney" when 8 others did!

Update: After coming up with my new-and-improved Pure McCartney playlist almost a month ago, I actually had several weekend road trips to try it out on. It was nice to be able to just start it when I left the house and let it play all weekend, and by the time I got back home it was just about finished, with no repeats. Multiple listens did reveal some weak spots, however, so I've tweaked it some more, for anyone who might be curious. I added in a few more songs that fit the sequence -- like putting "Another Day" between "Great Day" and "No More Lonely Nights" ("It's gonna be a great day" leads to the decidedly NOT great "Another Day" which leads to "I can wait another day..."). I added "Promise To You Girl" to my sequence of "finale" songs, as it has the "looking through the backyard of my life" line that befits this retrospective. And I removed a bunch of songs that I just couldn't get over, like "Hi Hi Hi" (weak rocker trying to be "bad") and "Bip Bop" (sorry, just couldn't keep it). I ended up with 69 tracks, so I broke that rule, but the end result is a stunning 4+ hour playlist that OMITS most of Paul's most famous solo tracks. Really impressive by our Macca.

**NOTE: It's become almost a cliche here to complain about the mastering of Memory Almost Full, but here is a raw example of how loud that album is -- and this STILL boggles my mind, a month later. When I was adjusting the volume of "Ever Present Past" so it would fit with the Pure McCartney tracks, I had to set it to 40% -- FORTY PERCENT! -- of its original volume to make it quiet enough to fit on Pure Macca. The Chaos & Creation tracks had to be lowered too, but not THAT much.

Well, as written 10 pages back, Pure was my introduction to McCartney's solo work, and I wouldn't change a thing. Except: I would add a 5th disc. I would be curious to see, given what is already on there, how aficionados (ie you guys) might compile a 5th CD.

Hi all-check Amazon this morning as hot on the heels of "Pure McCartney" and a week before the Ron Howard movie is in theaters, but at long last "The Beatles Live at The Hollywood Bowl" is being reissued on CD/Vinyl/Digital. The pre-order is already on Amazon.com. No art work as of yet!

  25. That just about covers it!

As far as adding "finale" songs, I'd stick in "Anyway" towards the end.
