So.... I got the soundtrack, through iTunes.... and I LOVE what Atticus Ross did with the 'sound collages'.
I didn't think I would want to 're-live' the harshness, but.... well...
you all know I love 'weirdness'!

The sale of Sea Of Tunes was a huge blow to Brian. Murry didn't think that the band's songs had a future, although I wonder if it was a revenge move to get back at Brian for firing him as their manager. In a telling event, Murry took to his bed after he was fired.

Brian, Tandyn Almer and Stanley Shapiro even had a project with A&M to rewrite lyrics to make the songs contemporary. They finished four songs before the board was afraid Brian would have circus tents set up on the lot and pulled the plug on the project.

For a stark contrast between Brian at the early stages of Landy's treatment and the period in Love And Mercy where Brian has been damaged by Landy's so-called care, watch Brian's interview with Mike Douglas from 1976 and then watch Brian's segment on the Theremin documentary. In '76 he was a little guarded, but lucid and not much different than the Brian of the 60's. Move forward to the early 90's, and you have a man who has been damaged by a psychiatrist with no authority to administer medications.

Watched this last night. I found it sad. Not sure I really want to remember Brian Wilson in that way. I will say that the sets looked amazing period wise.

If you read his Wikpedia bio you might find it even sadder.

Yeah, I know his bio and the history of his issues. I think its a good movie and fair enough to let people know what he went through to get what he wanted accomplished. I just probably didnt need to see it.

I've been listening to all my Beach Boys CDs since watching the biopic. I'm hearing things in the music I never heard before, maybe partly due to new speakers I got recently.

Same here. I even tracked down Sweet Insanity, his lost second solo album produced by Landy.

I just cancelled my Amazon pre order for the blu ray and ordered from Bullmoose for $11.97 (I had my cart filled with a few CDs, so I get free shipping over $25).

Psychiatrists are medical doctors with the authority to prescribe medications. Landy was not a psychiatrist. Psychologists like Gene Landy often affiliate with Md's or Do's who write the actual prescriptions.

Must have been autocorrect on this phone. Not sure why I typed psychiatrist. Landy was definitely no MD. It was his unauthorized administering of meds to Brian that got him in trouble. Then he had the nerve to blame the MD who was writing them and that he (Landy) was only giving them to Brian, not prescribing.

I finally got to see this last night and enjoyed it. My companion did not know the Beach Boys history behind the movie and liked it as well, though I had to do some explaining afterwards.
