The fact that Sweet Insanity has been mentioned in this thread scares me a little.

Man, I can't remember the last time I showed up at a record store to on the day of release for an album. Perhaps Best Buy for Chinese Democracy? I know I have occasionally picked up product from time to time at Best Buy or Barnes & Noble since, but I don't think it has been on the day of release. Sorry to threadcrap....

My Amazon preorder still exists, though clearly this album is not coming out next week.

It's now unavailable to order. I wonder what their plan is.

More like 3/9/2055 in keeping with the tradition of the Smile release. RIP. :wtf:

Sounds like a title Mike Love might have come up with!

  10. I'm huge into the Boys, but I can't get with Brian solo. The production is awful.

When this finally comes out, I will of course buy it as I have everything else Brian has ever released. But, with Gershwin and Disney as his last two releases, not getting my hopes up.

This record is gonna be different. Hes got young guest stars to help pique interest. Team Wilson is swinging for the fences this time. This is meant to be a high profile release to coincide with the movie. It could be good, or it could be a sellout move and sound like a Boys II Men album. Wait and see.

Between this non-release and the antics of the barely animated Love and Johnston on the casino circuit, the Beach Boys' once-amazing saga is reaching a sad end, comparable to Michael Jordan's comeback as a player/executive with the Wizards. Or, as the poet Dan Hicks once wrote, how can I miss you when you won't go away?

The record is definitely coming out. It's just that the November release date was annonced prematurely.

Would you buy an album of new material by Mike Love and The Beach Boyz Band?

I was at Target here in Montreal today, and there was a CD slot reserved for Brian's album, but it wasn't there yet.

Yes, Target here is notorious for having nearly empty shelves in the new CD section on Tuesdays.

If the newly released "Our Special Love" with Peter Hollens is any indication, we may just be on the verge of brilliance.

I hope this album's really good (well brilliant actually) but i have gone from believing that Brian is the messiah to thinking he's just a very naughty boy. If this album's only ok or worse then i highly doubt he will have another shot with the general public.
I still think a better project would be Brian, Van Dyke Parks, Derren Brown (the hypnotist), chocolate cake, steak, a piano in a sandbox, a recording of all the Smile bits with missing lead vocals and a tape recorder on standby with Al Jardine primed and ready to deliver lead vocals (with original melodies/lyrics). I'm convinced of it, that hypnosis of our minds can take us far away, even as far away as late 1966. Van Dyke,Derren and Al could be just the kind of peer pressure BW needs to accomplish such a mission.

While I sincerely hope everyone is right about this upcoming release, it occurs to me that Brian Wilson fans are a lot like Chicago Cubs fans....eternal optimists!

  25. Nope. A bunch of 70 year old guys singing about cars and chicks doesn't make sense.
