    Here's another:
Mine has DIDP 50021 21A5 in the matrix.

I installed EAC to test my disc. I don't know how to display the EAC levels, but everything else matches for that mastering (39:34:07 total, Made In U.S.A/DADC in hub, etc.).

I have a matrix number that I don't think has been mentioned yet: DIDP 50021 G2 1A 17. Would this perhaps indicate Mastering #2? I don't have EAC installed so I can't check the levels.

When you rip the disk, the levels are documented in the .log file.

I'm still confused as to which mastering I've got.

    - It's a drill-hole promotional disc from the radio station I worked at. (Hole through black jewel case spine)

    - The disc itself, since that's the important part, has the COLUMBIA logo-word over the walking eye on the left.

    - Printed catalog numbers are CK 33795, DIDP 050021, with a triangle below.

    - Rim matrix numbers: DIDP-050021 G3 1A 08

Outer package says Now Made In The U.S.A., for what that's worth. Disc doesn't say where it's made.

I don't have EAC, but the total time in CD Player and Winamp says 38:24.

Not willing to dig through seven pages here, where does this version of "Born To Run" fall into the scheme of "quality"? As good as version #2? Lesser overall quality than version #2?

Columbia/Legacy SKU #07464-64406-2-9 Super Bit Mapping Gold Disc, copyright 1975, matrix numbers: CK52859 and 5/94 1DA2.

Harry, I'm pretty sure you have mastering #3. Since the DIDP number has the leading zero (050021), it is a later U.S. pressing. Other discs with 050021 have mastering #3. Also, the total time you cited is closest to the 39:28 that Ben has listed for mastering #3.

Can someone please tell me who mastered the Mastersound CD of Born To Run?

Craig, first, I see that this is your first post although you signed up in March, so welcome aboard!

As for your Sprinsteen CD, note above that HGN2001 (Harry) has a similar pressing to yours. Based on the additional information he posted for his disc, I'm pretty sure you have mastering #3.

For those who already have BTR ripped to your hard drive, you can use freeware app CUETools to determine EAC peak levels. Run CUETools in “Verify” mode for it to generate the EAC values.

In the liner notes it says:

  16. George,

#1 has PE applied, I think. Did you listen to a CD-R or wave-files?

#3 is much brighter than #1 in my opinion, if #1 is properly de-emphasized.

I had been listening to a CD-R that was burned incorrectly. I finally got EAC to burn a copy with the PE flags set. I compared them again and now I prefer #3.

It may sound strange, but I think #1 sounds better without being de-emphasized.

But my beat up copy of the Mastersound CD (no case or liner notes) sounds better than #1 and #3, IMO.

You can add another matrix to #3

Made in USA by Digital Audio Corp Matrix: DIDP 50021 21B6

I notice all the Made in USA #2 matrix have an "A" as the third character after the DIDP 50021 and the #3 matrix have a "B".

    Yo Craig!!

You are one smart dude, however, this was already pointed out and discussed... see posts #24 and #26. In fact both CDs look exactly the same. So, the moral of the story is... If you want mastering #2.... GO by matrix "A" NOT "B". See also Randy's post #62

I gave away the first and second masterings when I got the Mastersound gold cd, it sounds very good to me. 3oth Anniversary cd (along with the Darkness) is fine but not as good as the Mastersound cd.
