It's literally two chords...one on some of the acoustic versions. The words are powerful, but not backed up by much until the band got ahold of it.
They're boring, unless there's cool stuff happening with the arrangement, which is what the band brought to the table here. Sorry, I've just never cared for acoustic versions of BITUSA, although like a lot of Bruce fans, I'm completely fine with never hearing either version during a show, honestly.
I never liked the acoustic, but I don't like acoustic versions in general. The band version rocks, though. I wish Bruce would play it more live - seems like he does it outside of the US a lot but doesn't touch it in the States all that often...
I saw it once, in 14 shows, and it honestly was kind of a letdown. It's weird, the crowd didn't really react to it that much...I think it only works live if you've got a European crowd like in the Barcelona DVD, that can make it more exciting than it otherwise would be. It's weird, he never plays "Glory Days" when I see him either, which is also fine by me.
It's sacrilege to say so, but I thought the 1992 "BITUSA" worked really well. And the 2002 Barcelona "BITUSA" is just as killer as killer can be. I was gonna post it but you pre-emptively struck!
The Bridge Benefit performance 1985 or 86 is my favorite acoustic performance I've heard. Has a definitive kind of feeling and performance about it imo. Dynamics, mood, tempo, and vocal and guitar sound and playing all work well together IMO. I don't care for the later acoustic performances I've heard nearly as much and the studio version from Tracks I like OK.
The audience really makes it, which I think is why he only plays it in Europe. The 'Other Band' BITUSA is an interesting sidenote, but it doesn't have the same bite in the lower key, and Zach's ping-y snare kind of ruined everything it touched.
It would have been due next Friday anyway, as that is the first Friday of November. Do you mean that it has been pushed back to the second Friday in November?
It's one of my favorites of the series, so far, along with the TOL tour shows. Different strokes, I guess. I just like hearing things I hadn't heard on bootlegs before.
It's because he is releasing the albums from Album Collection 2 as individual vinyl releases. Contractually He can't compete with his label by releasing a show on the same day.
Something old I reckon. Three new ones lately. My guess is 75/76 or 80/81. Maybe 84/85(is a box set even coming?) And Winterland '78 for the December release.
We just had a River release not long ago. I'm thinking it will be something newer. Winterland 78 sounds good for December.
Does it matter if we just had one? They have plenty of multitracks from the the River tour. Put them out! There are at least 100 shows released from the post Reunion era and not muchfrom the old days. I think the archives should focus on the pre ESB breakup for about 95% of the time.
I would imagine we'll start seeing a higher proportion of Rising shows in the future, since they've apparently figured out whatever glitch was preventing their release in the past. Not saying that it will be next, since we just got one, but I'm betting they'll be more heavily represented in the mix, moving forward. Not my favorite era - I've really grown to dislike all the violin. I prefer the "reunion" tour, if only because a) no Soozie, and b) since they weren't specifically promoting a new album, the set lists tended to be significantly more varied and interesting.
