Bucks Fizz! Enjoying their songs. Am I getting older and mad?

That's partly true, but you're also speaking of a pop group whose careers were dramatically curtailed by the coach crash in 1984. The original Bucks Fizz only had about three years to put Eurovision behind them; after that, the crash took any momentum out of their career and you ended up with the decades of bad blood and court cases. Their back catalogue is pretty amazing given how little time they had during their peak, but I'm not convinced that there's a lot of "strength in depth" in their entire career.

I find this line intriguing. What did you mean by that?

Thought this was going to be a poll. I'd of definitely gone for the "Mad" option.

Cheryl Baker once came in the Doulton Superstore, in Stoke-on-Trent, when I was working there, to do some shopping.

Yes, let's have a Dollar appreciation thread! :righton:

    A pop masterpiece

The Fizz made some great pop records but were always seen as an ABBA clone

Thanks for highlighting this. Never heard it before, it boggles the mind that it wasn't released as a single.

Like most non-UK residents I haven't really heard much more from them than Making Your Mind Up and Land of Make Believe. Probably a good example of the Eurovision stigma that very few (are there really any notable ones besides Abba?) have escaped.

With a lot of the big chart acts (I'm thinking Abba, Queen, Madonna) the fans like songs other than the singles so that at least you get the sense that there's something there to investigate further, but I think that BF fans just seem to like the same songs that we all know ... just more so than the rest of us. That said, if you have a deep cut to recommend then please do because I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

I'd say ABBA were a bit darker, especially towards the end.

I'd say Modern Talking are underrated.

I was going to post them on the "Bands that didn't manage to cross the Atlantic" because Americans couldn't understand them.

In this case, our understanding is so deficient all I'd get from this side is blank looks.

I'm not sure they even tried to crack the States...

"Alone Again (Naturally)" is brilliant. I've always said that I'd love to see Morrissey do a cover version of it.

Nick Cave wasn't as dark as Abba at the end!

I really really like 'My Camera Never Lies', but that's about it. Can't say I find the rest of them turn-the-radio-off-with-a-brick level bad, so that's something. Had a massive crush on Jay Aston back in the day, though.

About 20 years ago I saw a Bucks Fizz Greatest Hits in a pound shop when I was still in the UK. I played the heck out of that, just really good pop music.
