Would like to discuss the best cover versions of songs by Buddy Holly and the Crickets. I listened to a good one by the Searchers today (see below). I think some other band from Liverpool did a few Holly songs too. Peter and Gordon did a few as well. Which ones stand out for you?
Back in the late 70's , Denny Laine released an all-Holly covers album called ' Holly Days ' . McCartney plays on a few cuts. I don ' t remember much about it but I recall liking it.
Maybe not the best cover version... but it has the distinction of being the first record I ever bought. Typical 1972 CanCon cheese... but it brings back happy memories of discovering 79 cent Top 40 singles at Zeller's. I still have it.
“Learning the Game” by Black Tie, with James Griffin on lead and (probably) Randy Meisner and Billy Swan on backing vocals -
Are you people kidding? These are good but it astounds me no one has posted The Beatles' cover of Words Of Love: Loved it since I first heard it for myself on a copy of Beatles VI my friend bought in 1971.
