Does Neil help him with the car at least?

Not sure where this was documented, or if it was something that simply floated around the discussion groups back in the day, but off the top of my head, the Buffalo Springfield reunion album got as far as rehearsals of:

    Road Of Plenty (Neil)
I'm A Fugitive (Neil and Joe Vitale)
    Unconditional Blues (Stills)
    Real Love (Richie)
    Baby, Why? (Richie)
Don't Take Your Love Away From Me (Neil)

Based on the Neil songs, this seems very likely. At the time, those two Neil songs were kind of "lost" (no particular place on a Neil album - yet), the typical types of songs he would offer to group projects.

Thanks Chief. Although I recall reading about this in Broken Arrow around '87 I had no idea what material was worked on.

I don't know that they do, but Joe was part of the Buffalo Springfield reunion in 1987, oddly enough; that really weird era where he was moving in on Stills, and CSN so much, that he started getting writing credits - which culminated in "Live It Up".

correct, and he produced 'live it up', which is full of syn-drums...and joe vitale is a frickin drummer!

but back to vitale/young.....if i recall correctly chief, young demanded that vitale and (i think bob glaub) not be on the CSNY2K tour or he would pull out.

Correct. I don't know when Neil became anti-Vitale. He played with Joe in the Buffalo Springfield reunions, but not with CSNY. Not sure why he made a distinction there. Joe is a little "stiff", and so was Dewey. Whereas, the drummers in CSNY were always more funky (Dallas Taylor, Barbara, Kunkel). That's just a theory.

Is Joe Vitale primarily a drummer? I thought he was a keys and percussion guy foremost.

I've only known about his work as a drummer. I know he made a couple solo albums, so he has musical skills as well. But I thought he was primarily a drummer - but that's how I was introduced to him. He was the guy drumming on CSN albums

Joe Vitale has a writing credit on the Hotel California album. Nice little annual paycheck, I'll bet.

vitale also wrote a book: 'backstage pass' (co-written by his wife)

it's a little fluffy, no dirt whatsoever, but it does have quite few very interesting stories.
