And my vintage Aerosmith box. One of those legendary bands where their five best releases were literally successive. In my view...

And now here's something completely different: a box of Hal Willner-produced tribute albums!
You could call it, The Music NOT of Hal Willner: a series of Tribute Albums

1981's Amarcord Nino Rota, Italian Fellini film music of Nino Rota, by jazz musicians such as Carla Bley, the Marsalis brothers, Deborah Harry, etc.
1984's That's The Way I Feel Now - a Tribute to Thelonius Monk by artists such as Joe Jackson, John Zorn, Peter Frampton and more
1985's Lost in the Stars: The Music of Kurt Weill, with tracks from Sting, Charlie Haden, Lou Reed, Tom Waits...
1988's Stay Awake: various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films, as done by Ringo Starr, Ken Nordine, Yma Sumac (Tom Waits' "Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho" is worth the price of admission alone!)
1992: Weird Nightmare: Meditations on Mingus...the jazz icon covered by Bill Frisell, Henry Rollins, Leonard Cohen, Keith Richards...and here's the best part: featuring instruments designed and built by Harry Partch!

It just doesn't get any weirder than this...

    dbone828 Only Visiting This Planet

After really getting into Larry Norman's music recently, I realized how perfect this series would work for his career, using these 5 albums:

    Upon This Rock (1969)
    Only Visiting This Planet (1972)
So Long Ago the Garden (1973)
    In Another Land (1976)
Something New Under the Son (1981)

Aside from being his 5 most highly-regarded albums in his career, they also happen to be his first five studio solo albums of original compositions.

Apologies if previously mentioned or if it exists:

    The Flaming Lips.
1 Hit to Death in the future head.
    2. Transmissions from the satellite heart.
    3. Clouds Taste Metallic.
    4. Zaireeka. (Stereo mix from original multi tracks )
    4. The soft bulletin

All Warners releases of course. Surprised that I haven't seen an 'Original Album Series' from 'Hit To Death...' up to and including 'Yoshimi battles...' but with 'Zaireeka' not included for obvious reasons.

How does one keep track of new original album classics or original album series box sets coming out?

  21. Runicen

I periodically search "box set" on amazon and sort by release date. They usually show up in that.

Last night I discovered that discogs is an easy way to do a search. Amazon searches are just weird...
