Over the last few years I've come to really appreciate him. Bacharach & David wrote some GREAT, GREAT songs. I can't even listen to Dionne Warwicks' version of Walk on By. Rips me up too much inside. In a good way, lol. But I get all teary-eyed. About as perfect a song as was ever written.

Well, for me it's (They Long To Be) Close To You. But I know what you mean about Walk On By-Melissa Manchester's glitzy version of it is a lock for my Bacharach playlist.

:kilroy: This is his great largely undiscovered masterpiece. It only got up to #74, but it rocks:

It’s loungy but never boring or easy listening IMHO. Some very cool reinterpretations of his songs.

:kilroy: I was having an argument with myself whether to put this here or in the thread about great bridges. The bridge of this begins at around 00:32 and is full of chord changes that I didn't even think existed in 1959. Not to mention the fact that the whole thing changes key twice as well:

His work with Dionne Warwick is legendary.

Was unaware that he was still alive. Happy Birthday to this legend.

Wow. Happy Birthday BB. He wrote some pretty good songs. o_O
At one point in time, songwriters actually wrote songs with chords that were outside the tonic. Not a good thing to do in today's music landscape.

The melodies are what make his music indeed. Those millions of albums sold are well deserved.
