of the past had a limited HF response, so now we can hear the unwanted things that the people in the studio had not heard at the time?

I am having this discussion on another board, and was going to use that as an example.

    TIA

Best example is the old Atlantic Studio (where Cream's "Gears" and "Fire" were recorded. I think their "treble" control was at 5000 cycles, and after that, there was nothing.

All of the pops, tics and other bleeps that are on Rascals, Cream, Ray Charles tapes were probably not even audible to Tom Dowd's monitors...

    Charming in a way...

Thank you Steve - a veritable treasure trove of information:).

By any chance, can you remember which model monitors they were using?

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

Maybe that's why he recorded so softly - couldn't hear the hiss.
