the debut was kick ass the second while good was a little bit of a let down . the third one was imo ok but the singer and drummer were different.

Bzzzt. Dawn Explosion had a different singer and drummer from second album, but original members Caldwell (drummer), Dorman, and Rheinhardt, with different vocalist from first two albums.

Went to my local record shops today. Unfortunately it's rare because it's holographic, and I am not prepared to spend $50 for a record at this point :D Guess I'll stick with my CD for awhile.

Crossing my fingers that Friday Music or Sundazed will do a good reissue with Kevin Gray though :agree:

I love both those first two albums....never heard the third actually. Man, Caldwell is such a fine drummer...I may have to grab it if I can find it. Any other thoughts on number 3?

I heard the first album on the radio show Beaker Street - it got quite a bit of regular airplay there. The second album - Sufficiently Breathless - got played a lot in St. Louis in the 70s. Both are great albums IMO. This thread reminded me that I need to pull both of these discs out and play them.

I discovered Captain Beyond and Trapeze at the same time. I don't have their first album Medusa but I have their self titled 2nd album and You are the Music we're Just the Band. They are around the same time period as Captain Beyond. Have a try.

It took me a while then I realized the red hair wasn't a shadow. Would those qualify as sideburns? Muttonchops perhaps? If there is a difference? Dudes at grow facial hair such as this, especially when chicks didn't like it, make them ALPHA in my book.

What is the best sounding version to get of their first album on CD? I have a polydor Japanese silver face with the red ring around the edge. Bought it in China with an import sticker on it and a price tag from Amobea for $19.99. I paid about $10 for it.

    That's the one. P33P 25051 I paid considerably more 20+ years ago.

You should definitely track down Medusa. I will venture to say that most will agree that it's Trapeze's best album.

I will! In fact I thought the self titled album was the first followed by 'You are the Band....' until I looked up their discography on allmusic due to this thread.

What year did it come out on this cd? My OBI doesn't mention it. I still find the LP I have sounds a bit fuller, it's a second pressing, it doesn't have the 3D cover art. But the CD is nice to have. Maybe I'll make a needle drop when I get back home to the US.

I always loved the 3-d of Captain Beyond on the LP cover.

I bought this Japanese release in 1989, so then or before, not 1990 as a release date. :)

..and I paid $49 for it. :hide:

while Medusa is well liked imo the better more rocking songs are on "you are the music" with some really killer mid tempo tunes with glenn tearing it up vocally. i thin Medusa was their second album also.
