I have an acquaintence who has had discussions with the Caribou camp about an anthology of the music that was recorded and/or mixed at the ranch. This person (sorry for the secretive nature, but all concerned have requested such) has researched and put together a prototype of what this incredible compilation MIGHT look like (or, at least, sound like) and it is a daunting project! The proto is 8 full CDS and I know that they had to leave numerous recordings off. I am amazed at all of the artists (over 150 at last count) that passed through the gates of this famous recording ranch. From seeing the artist rundown on this collection, I imagine that gaining the rights to these recordings would be beyond gigantic. A nightmare would be more like it. As a Coloradan, I have always been proud of Caribou's heritage and I hope that this project, in which ever form it takes, sees the light of day while I can still see the light. LOL In recent years, Jim Guerico has sold off some large parcels of the ranch to secondary parties, but I don't have any details on those sales. Interested parties could probably get this info from Boulder's Daily Camera newspaper. In 2008, Jim and Mark Brown were featured on a special about the ranch, produced by Denver's PBS program "Studio 12" where Guercio stated that he had no plans to reopen. I believe much of this program is still up on YouTube. Since then there have been ranch rumblings including my acquaintence's music prototype and Guerico's camp applying for copyrights on recordings and other entities from Caribou. But it's like a fairly dormant volcano, just rumblings. Here's hoping!
Here's an article from the Boulder Daily Camera dated July of this year. Sounds like Guercio has put the whole kit 'n' kaboodle up for sale. http://www.dailycamera.com/boulder-...h-historic-recording-studio-near-nederland-up

Sorry, didn't know there was still interest in this. As some of you know, Caribou Ranch is being inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame this year, along with Dan Fogelberg and Joe Walsh/Barnstorm. Also, the Colorado Music Hall now has a permanent home, which will be in the Trading Post at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2013/11/08/colorado-music-hall-of-fame-moving-to.html The induction ceremony will also be noted by a Dan Fogelberg tribute album that has long been in the works: http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/b...3/08/chuck-morris-says-no-thanks-to-fame.html I've heard some tracks from the tribute album and it's really top-notch stuff. I think Dan fans will be pleased. If the induction ceremony comes together as planned this year it'll be a pretty spectacular event. I believe I posted this previously, but for those who want to know what the studio looks like today, here's local singer/songwriter Zach Heckendorf playing a song in the studio two years ago. Again, everyone assumes Caribou burned to the ground when it closed, when actually only the control room burned. As you can see in the video, the actual studio where Elton, Chicago, Lennon, etc did their recording is untouched. The pianos and hammond you see in the video are the ones that were used on all the great songs recorded up there, and you can catch a glimpse of the drum enclosure in the top left corner in some of the wide shots. The screen behind Zach is where they used to screen movies for fun -- it retracts into the ceiling when not in use. You can catch some more glimpses here - this video was filmed all over Denver but has some Caribou footage cut in, including in the opening seconds where Zach is playing guitar on the porch of a Caribou cabin and another, wider shot of him fooling around inside the studio. At six seconds in you can clearly see the drums and everything else in the recording studio. And the record store is the great Twist and Shout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa6wq6q0TJ4
