As Carrie had been signed with Sony since she won American Idol in its 4th season, this new deal with Universal is major news.

 

Doesn't this mean that both Carrie and Kelly Clarkson are free of their initial American Idol deals? That's great news for both of them--easily the two most successful winners of AI and two women who have proven that they are vastly talented and much bigger than the platform that launched them.

Good luck to her with this new deal! I have enjoyed every record she has put out so far. She picks good songs and sings them well. She also seems like a real sweetheart of a person.

 

I would enjoy an album of traditional country from Carrie Underwood.

Me too. There is traditional country in her, but she needs to record it.

 

A better deal's a better deal, but it always surprises me when a major artist leaves one label for another. There would seem to be efficiencies with staying on one label, not to mention re-negotiating the terms of the previously recorded material.
