I have a Pro-ject Debut III, a audio-technica AT-PEQ3 preamp, and the default Ortofon stylus that the Debut came with. Thanks to some christmas funds (not a lot of christmas funds, mind you) I'm planning to upgrade my cart. This is the first TT I've owned and this will be the first upgrade I've done. Right now I'm looking at three options. 1. The AT-7V sold here: http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/mer...re_Code=LG&Product_Code=AT7V&Category_Code=A3 (and discussion here http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=260554) I suppose this is just now being imported to the US and there's not of lot of debate about it over here just yet. Anyone have one of these or tried one and can add thoughts? In the audiokarma discussion they mention they don't feel the brightness that other AT carts exhibit. True? 2. Ortofon 2m Red Among the things I've read so far, it is - netural and accurate - not accuracte - doesn't handle surface noise well - almost identical to the more expensive Blue - worlds apart from the Blue - ...and so on 3. AT440MLa Of course there's been tons of debate on this one. I initially got my AT-PEQ3 preamp on the record store guy's recommendation that it paired well with the AT440MLa (I was planning down the road to move to the AT440MLa). The fact that the preamp and the cart pair well sounds questionable to me, but I needed a preamp and they had it, so I got it. Anyway, I'm still interested in this cart, but it seems the price keeps going up and I can't find it for less than 160. I really want to keep it to no more than 120 if I can help it. Is it worth it the extra cost? Is it really as bright as everyone says? Not looking to upgrade the table, I'm really trying to keep the cost of this upgrade as small as I can. Saving for Car > TT upgrade, in this case.
