I'd like Steve to master Elton John's catalog from Empty Sky through Rock of the Westies to 2 channel SACD.

I'd also like John (Cougar) Mellencamp's and Cheap Trick's entire catalog done by Steve. I don't know if the Cheap trick is worth it sonically, but I'd love it on SACD.

    I almost forgot, JIMI HENDRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I know that EMI would never let Steve touch the catalog I didn't list it. EMI seems intent on doing as much as possible "in-house" even though their people (Mew, etc.) as know for, ahem, not doing a great job.

You are probably right David - more's the pity.

Still, I'd love to hear Funeral For a Friend on an SH SACD.

I just thought of a single LP I'd love Steve to remaster onto SACD - Klaatu!

This won't happen since the band remastered the record a few years ago and just re-released the second album last month.

But besides coping with reality... Count me in on this! When the best version of a CD you have was mastered by Bob Norberg (famous for no-noising and remixing the life out of Sinatra) from a safety copy you KNOW there's room for improvement. The new remaster is the WORST. It's abominable how the band trashed the new remaster job. Track three (I think) is now mono!?!? And the huge dynamics of Little Neutrino are all but gone. Steve would do this great sounding record justice.

 The honest truth? After hearing the CCR's & Zombies he did, I'd buy anything Steve remasters for SACD....multi-channel or not. The regular CD reissue market is going into the toilet at an alarming rate, there's almost nothing I trust anymore. I know a lot of you feel the same.

This has been mentioned before, but I'll mention it again since it fits this topic title. I'd love to see the Black Sabbath catalog during their original incarnation (AKA the Ozzy years) remastered by Steve and available on SACD. That would make several of us here very happy campers. At present, we seem to have to compromise between poor sources/good remastering and good sources/poor remastering. It would be nice to see excellent sources/excellent remastering and in SACD to boot! Multichannel not required although it could certainly make for an interesting listen.

Check out the Dave Mason "It's like you never left" and 2nd album on S&P Cd. it's shocking, how nice it is.

I'm not a big fan of Mason's Columbia work--TRAFFIC[the album]and ALONE TOGETHER were my faves--but on your recommendation, Bob, I will soon give your suggestion a listen. Thanks for reminding me.

Oh, don't get me started about the horrible Klaatu remasters! I can't believe the narrow soundstage and extreme use of compression!

This band and remasters will make me buy computers and gear to make CDR transfers of vinyl - although I've always felt that the vinyl was never that great.

I did not know that Hope was released!

Now.... should I pick it up?

I wasn't a big fan of the columbia stuff either, but the new CD puts a different spin on it. I don't have the originals to compare to, but the music is more open and life-life than I remember. I was surprised I liked it so much. I wasn't a fan of the asylum records/Eagles kind of sound, which I thought the original album had. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago, when I was a callow youth.

    Should we flip for it?

My curiosity is killing me. Maybe I'll find a hidden $20 in a jacket and waste it on the remaster.

    Now now, never say never.

I remember back in '97 RCA came out with a remaster of Jefferson Starship's Red Octopus. At that time I was thinking we'll never see Steve's version on DCC. But 6 months or so later, DCC had it out.

So there can be hope sometimes.

I agree with the Elton idea. Everything to Rock/Westies.

Rush... oh yes! I'm sure Steve could improve the Ludwig remasters easily!

Carly Simon, in particular I'd like to see Steve remaster "No Secrets". This is a well recorded album of good to great music. Unfortunately, I've never been able to find a quiet vinyl copy. I bought in 1972, when released and it was ticky. Just picked up a NM first pressing on ebay and it is ticky. I seem to recall returning about ten of these elektra pressings initially, never getting a satisfactory copy.

I second this. IIRC, Black Sabbath did release Paranoid in Quad, and this would be great as a MC SACD with "the breath of life" added.

Please help in identifying the two Klaatu releases.
And how good was the first one?
    Thanks.
