    Steve,
As familiar as you are with the CCR tapes and catalog I was wondering why you have not done "Chronicle"?--man would this be a great seller on SACD or what? But I guess Fantasy sees that too-right?

In an unrelated question--I had the opportunity to hear the CCR Fantasy session with Booker T and the MGS recently--about a 60 minute CDR in pretty good quality---its the first session tape like this I've ever heard from CCR---my question is do you know if the session reels exist for most of the CCR LP's----like the infamous Beatles "John Barrett" tapes?

Fantasy released their own gold cd of Chronicle - and yes, Steve would definitely make a better sounding comp... Perhaps now that there's a trickle of SACD action on the CCR front, Chronicle might yet receive the Hoffman touch! :)

I suspect that, for the same reason that Fantasy did not include Chronicle among its remastered CCR CDs of a few years back, it is reluctant to put it out in SACD form: such a release would put a real crimp in the sales of the other CCR catalog SACDs.

I think that's the rub concerning SACD's or DVD-A greatest hits albums. On one hand I think they would do the formats wonders by enticing people to buy the respective hardware. On the other hand they might very well tank the sales of any full album releases by that artist.

I think compliations like "Toga Rock" are the answer. Multiple artists that would really showcase what they new formats can do.

Related question if I may, I saw these Fantasy CCR discs both volumes in a store today. I noticed that they were packaged very similar to the DCC editions. I did not buy them yet becuase I wanted to check here first and the fact that Steve is re-doing the titles on hybrid SACD it would probably not be worth it.

So are discs these any good??!?!?!

Matt, beat me to the question: How bad are those fantasy Gold discs??? I'm really not really a big CCR fan, but the Chronicle set has all the "Hits" that I would like to have in one CD. I also saw these @Tower, but because they are a bit pricey I figured I'll wait. So what gives with these CD's ??

    Mattb and Ralpho,

Can you say "sounds like crap"! They (the Fantasy Gold Cd's) are way too compressed and can cause severe ear pain. Avoid like the plague. The new SACD's and the DCC's are the only way worth pursuing IMHO.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

I like the DCC Golds the best overall.:)
