Why is it that, when recording to a tape, Cd's are much louder then songs taken from records? When listening to a mix tape it kinda sucks to have to adjust the volume for ever song. Anyway to record at the same volume? BTW I only have a crappy shelf system so that might have something to do with it. Thanks.

Simple answer to a complex question. In general today's CD's are burned hot for high output. Vinyl can be recorded as hot, but typically vinyl was not. But if your cartridge/phono preamp has less gain (output voltage into the amp) than your CD player, even a hot record will produce less output than the CD player. If you can get to the CD's interconnects you can introduce resisters that will lower the output voltage the amp sees providing a better match.

    Richard.
