Yep - I remember that one too. That store has been there for over 35 years. Once in awhile, they had some decent used vinyl. I was in there in 1977 and had a chance to buy a demo copy of Zuma by Neil Young for $4. Solid white cover stamped "Zuma - Neil Young" and a hand written white label with song titles. It was not a boot - legit early release from WB. Like a dumb *** I didn't buy it.

 I gotta admit, being from Northern VA, it takes some getting used to to have to drive 20 miles to even go to a Best Buy, much less the little niche CD/record/pop culture type niche shop :)

Thanks for all the help. :edthumbs:

I'll probably check out half Price and Docs when I get into the Messoplex. I found out there are a couple of small places in Weatherford (Bookcase and one other one by the interstate). I'll check those tomorrow.

Uh, Uh, here goes... Book stores on Interstates are usually not of the Half Price variety. If there's a back section that costs to enter... well you're probably a big boy.

Speaking of Haltom City specialty stores. (nudge, nudge)

The old Baker Hotel and Crazy Water Hotel used to be a great spa for the 20's Hollywood set....Ft. Walters used to bring a bit more prosperity before leaving in the 70's.

Forever Young is worth the trip just to see all the great vinyl. Their prices are usually $15 for common originals, $25 for many and up. It's not a good place for common titles but there are some high grade, hard to find titles that might be worth buying if you have struggled to find them. THey have a ton of 45's well cataloged as well.

Used CDs are normal used prices except they charge $9.99 for extended length CDs.

Lot's of new CDs and vinyl and they seem to be full MSRP....lot's of ACE, Bear Family single CDs, boxes.

WHen a title goes OOP you can often still find them at Forever Young which then start to look like values vs inflated oop ebay prices.

THe BORDERS near Hulen Mall has 40% off and still a lot of CDs...was their tonight. ).....I was working downtown Ft. Worth today.

Half Price Books Nortwest Highway is the "mothership" and it's the size of a Wal-Mart...if you make it all the way to Dallas you can hit Half Price Books Northwest Highway (prices are higher there than other HPB on records), CD Source (one of the best used CD stores I've been to in the US), Good Records (mostly new stuff...especially indie).

In north Denton (in addition to Recyled Books) there is a used book store with a lot of used classic rock records...

In addtion to the 2 HPB's in Ft. Worth, there are Half Price Books in Watuga (spelling), 2 in Arlington (one near the new football stadium you may want to see).

THE Best (but not largest) was KOZMO'S in Carollton but it was so good it was short lived....more like going to a collector's house during a everything is priced to sell now SALE

hah! Well, I had a couple people in town recommend them and one closes at 5:30, so I think they're of the daytime variety. If not, at least they'll have some interesting merchandise to browse. heh.

Looks like I might try to hit forever Young, too. Borders is having 40-50% off? I guess because there isn't one nearbyI've been out of the loop. Are the stores ditching their whole CD stock? (I guess thats for another thread...)

Yeah, the Baker looks like it was once a majestic place. Place is in shambles now. :shake:

I'll add my 2 cents worth for Forever Young; although I haven't been in there for awhile it was always the best stocked both new and used record/CD store around. A little pricey, but not as bad as some now-defunct retail chains.

another vote for Forever Young, I was there 3 days ago, and I always find something worth buying, although "audiophile"-type cd's seem to be hard to find there, IMO; BTW, Doc's is not in Euless or Bedford, it's in Hurst, and I've never been there...I bowl at the bowling alley adjacent to Doc's, in the same parking lot (bowled a 200 there 10 days ago..pat's self on the back :)), and I will check out Doc's soon, thanks to the kudos posted here; Half-price books is good, not a huge selection, but occasional rare finds, at good prices; if you decide to hit Forever Young, I would also go to Cooper street in Arlington...drive south from Forever Young, on HWY 360, for half a mile, go west on Interstate 20 for 4 miles, or so, exit on Cooper going North...you will see Movie Trading Company immediately north of the large shopping Mall at I-20 and Cooper, that store is where I found my DCC Nat Cole's Greatest Hits for $8...then drive north on Cooper, for 2 miles, and go to Entertainmart, good selection of used cd's, then another mile or so north, and go to the Half-price books, at Cooper and Pioneer Parkway...that will give you the most/best shopping experience with the least driving...BTW, each of those stores will be on your right (east) as you drive north on Cooper...hope this helps

Did the Baker Hotel ever recover from the downtown tornado? Is that why it is in a shabby state now?

Since moving to Grand Prairie from Austin my pickings have been slimmer but I've found some gems here and there (Pawn Shops, 1/2 Price Books). Forever Young is on the pricey side but it's worth checking out if not for the insane amount of music then for the wall of expensive music related collectibles. I've scored some good finds in the used CD bins.
And if you have the big bucks there's the small locked room (you have to ask for an employee to open it) of even more expensive vinyl. I've never bothered.

How BILLS has lasted so long I don't know.

Probably not, since most of the windows in the upper rooms are busted out. According to town history nobody has bought the place since it was closed down in 70-something. I've heard rumors about some Native American investors wanting to reopen it as a casino.

I visited Doc's yesterday, first time I've ever seen cars parked there, and there were several...perhaps some people are reading this forum? my initial reaction was that the selection was poor, the place was too small, lots of junk from bands I never heard of...but 90 minutes later I walked out with 5 items, and their prices are unbeatable...if Doc's is able to turn over inventory fairly quick, I'll be going there regularly :goodie:

I avoid Bill's like the plague. I shopped there for years as a teenager in the 80's. I actually found a Butcher cover in the stacks & because there was no price tags I was screwed. He wouldn't sell it to me. He gauges what you look like and sets the price.

Bill's.....Yeah, I did that once too back in the late 80s. I found a CSN&Y Rubber Dubber double album boot. It was in pretty crummy condition. I took it and about 5 other fairly common albums (probably VG+ condition) to the counter for pricing. They said $200 for everything. I had a hard time not laughing. So I said "How much for the CSN&Y?" They replied $125. I said "No thanks." and left the store. I have never been back since...and won't be.
