Could be a really great Blu-ray release if done like the Yes albums. It could have new surround mix done by Steven Wilson, quad mix, surround mix done for the DVD-Audio, remixed stereo mix done by Steven Wilson, original flat transfer stereo mix and an instrumental only mix.

I would buy it for sure.

Yay, all of those included is an instant buy for me!

E: I should add that I originally found this on quadraphonicquad, thanks to fredblue.

It would be amazing if Steve W. remixed Chicago 5, 6 and 7 (my favorites). The latest version of these albums sound very good, but I can't help imagining there's more to hear on those tapes.

I would SO love to hear Wilson take on the classic Chicago catalog.

Let's do 5.1 of "Carnegie Hall" and "XI" while we're at it too!

Well, doesn't look like the Quadio release is going to have any new SW mixes on them, but getting the old quad mixes will be tremendous!

I'm already wondering which B & M will give me more for my DVD-A discs, and the MFSL stereo SACD of VI ? I'll keep the original CTA Quadio disc. Too rare to let go of.

I wonder why XI is not in the set. Very incomplete.

XI was never mixed for quad back in the day. So it's actually entirely complete. It's every Chicago album Columbia had mixed in quad.

They should mix it for quad NOW. That would make the box even more worth getting.

They aren't in business of remixing albums. That would require going back to the multi-track masters, hiring a mixing engineer, etc which they don't have the authorization or probably budget to do. They didn't license the multis. Just the old completed mixes. That's a completely different sort of project.

Personally, I'd like to see somebody like Steve Wilson go in and do new 5.1 and stereo remixes of everything. But that isn't what this reissue is about. And that would likely end up being a much more expensive set.

It will be hard to beat the Mobile Fidelity version of CTA. But I am in.

I am a huge Steven Wilson fan, but he has never mentioned Chicago as a band he ever listened to. I just think the whole rock + horns thing doesn't do it for him.

Great... I'm sure the SW remix will blow away the horrible MFSL mastering!

Didn't you mean to say, "Baby What A Big Surprise", LOL?

This actually sounds interesting and I agree with others, that XI needs to also be done in a surround mix

The quads are so good that I no longer care about getting of those albums in a new surround mix. But yes. If any one of them is done, make it XI to complete the Kath years!

It would, no doubt, sell to at least everyone who bought the Quadio box.

Horrible MFSL mastering? The mastering is fine. It's just a crummy sounding mix.

for me in later years I like stuff like this, back in the day I'd cut off the rear speakers of the quad version, hence the horns, and it rocked a lot more. Terry's guitar goes forefront, and it's pretty wonderful.

Exactly. As with Aqualung, this is a great candidate for what Steven Wilson does well.
