Well, if there really is just one SACD plant in existence, and capacity was not available, perhaps they wanted to at least have something to release for Christmas; I will hold off and see if 2017 brings a hi-res physical release.

GREAT idea... in a perfect world. However ...

I seriously doubt any more releases on SACD, when this will fill the bill, for a remix.

Hope this means that we get brass on the next SW solo album. He does tend to absorb things from what he remixes, and Gavin Harrison has shown him the way when it comes to the use of brass in his music.

Wonder if SW will get the opportunity to remix other classic Chicago albums. Please please please... :D

None of the others truly need remixing.

The way these things work he'd be stupid to say in public it's definitely just the one. You can sometimes get a tantalising read into what SW might be thinking about by looking at the Playlists that he posts; he was listening to the Quadio boxed set in July.

For what it's worth, there's a lot of Zappa on his lists August-September; I've got no reason to think that anything will ever come of that, but it would be a fascinating match, even if he only did a surround mix for The Yellow Shark which was, of course, recorded in surround using a special microphone assembly:

Though of course I'd also like SW to carry on with Chicago! I must be unusual here in owning the Quadio set but never having owned stereo mixes in their own right.

There's hope for a 5.1 mix ( a no brainier) then. Re; A Zappa title ..I think he'd want to handle One Size Fits All, The Grand Wazoo, Roxy...or Overnite Sensation.

There is some precedent, sort of. Back in the late 1980s, I bought the first US CD of Jethro Tull's "Living in the Past." A few months later, Chrysalis reissued the CD, with improved mastering and, more importantly, an additional track. Acting on a tip from a local record shop owner, I sent my disc to Chrysalis and they exchanged it for the new version. It's the only time I've been able to do that with a non-defective disc.

I see that this CD will be on Rhino. Do we expect it to have the signature Rhino sound/mastering?

No "mastering" was applied to Steven's mix.
Do Rhino releases still have a signature sound?

    From the Rhino Press release:
CHICAGO II: STEVEN WILSON REMIX will be available January 27 on CD for $14.98. The newly remixed album will also be released as a double-LP set later next year for $31.98.

I was tempted to check this out until I saw that there was no 5.1. Disappointing.

Neither planned nor prepared as it was done quite well by John Kellogg.

I hope the STEVE WILSON remix of Chicago II would sound more analog and even better than the very digital-sounding DVD-Audio remix.
I can't wait to get a copy of the vinyl.

I think Chicago VIII (1974/1975) needs some remixing.
