Brenda Lee/Rockin around the Christmas tree (reissue)

Ramsey Lewis trio/More sounds of Christmas (jazz reissue) this is exciting, can't find this around anywhere

Saxophonist Michael Lington said on Instagram he’s releasing a Christmas album shortly. Vinyl included.

If the Chicago Christmas album is new music, that is exciting. The old Chicago Christmas re-release on Rhino CD, might be the best Christmas album of all time with bonus tracks too. I have hundred of Christmas albums, mostly vintage; the good stuff.

I hate Xmas albums in general. It's exceptional when an artist comes up with something original and credible. Both Thea Gilmore and Tori Amos did an exceptional job a few years back. Most big names churn out the usual christmas standards in a way that makes it an obvious cash grab attempt.

The Andy Williams Christmas album from the early 1960's is the only album that made Billboards #1 album both in the year it was released, and also during the following years Christmas tide also. In my opinion he was the best Christmas singer ever. Maybe Nat King Cole was up there too. Andy Williams love, awe and wonder of Christmas came through in his songs. There are not that many new Christmas songs of real note. Most artists albums are just covers of the basic Christmas repertoire done in their own style. It does not get boring for me. Even though the songs are old, they sound enough like new creations to retain interest. I wonder how many, if any, non- Christmas songs would stand up to hundreds of different new arrangement attempts ?

I think there's a lot of truth to this statement...in my opinion, the best Christmas LP's are the older ones from the 50's and 60's...Sinatra's, Elvis', The Phil Spector Christmas LP (and absolute stone-cold classic!!!) etc. However, I really liked BB King's Christmas LP from a few years ago, and there have been a few other recent ones that were pretty decent.

Some of the better and more fun Christmas albums come from artists you wouldn't normally listen to. One of the better Xmas albums is actually by Mantovani, of all people. Beautiful emotional arrangements. Also Johnny Mathis, The Carpenters, Ray Conniff, The Ventures, Jim Nabors, Alabama and the Christmas compact disc by Michael McDonald is one of the most realistic sounding compact discs for sound quality that I have heard. It is the one on the Hallmark label.

I'm expressing an opinion, some might say that opinion equals debate which is part of what being a member of such a forum is all about.

I'm not a fan of the band Kiss so I have zero interest in even going into those threads and wasting my time reading or responding in those threads. So you think I should go in and express my valuable opinion to start a debate on how much they stink?
