I've been priming the pump by starting to watch some of the "b" level movies available on Netfix streaming.
Just watched Christmas Bounty, and would not recommend this one. A family constantly kicking ass and shooting at people doesn't translate into a good Christmas story for me.

I always watch Die Hard and Die Hard 2. If I come across Holiday Inn while channel surfing, I'll stay on that until finished.

Just watched Christmas Kiss on Netflix. Pretty good typical romantic Christmas movie. A nice switch from always being the dufus boyfriend to this time a dufus girlfriend/fiance. Brendan Fehr from Roswell TV ahow plays the nice guy.

I gave in to an email sales pitch from Turner Classic Movies and bought the blu ray of Remember the Night, a Christmas film I had heard of but never seen. I like Preston Sturges' scripts. Watched it last night and really enjoyed it. The directing is uneven, but great script (the last Sturges wrote for a film he didn't direct) and great performances from Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck.

It Happened On Fifth Avenue, with a wonderfully sweet performance by Victor Moore.

Also the Lemon Drop Kid with Bob Hope which introduced the Christmas classic Silver Bells.

I saw It Happened on Fifth Avenue for the first time a few years ago, and it has become one of my favorites and I bought the DVD for annual viewing. I have never seen the Lemon Drop Kid, so will make it a point to check it out.
    Thanks

The Lemon Drop Kid is available on its own and as part of the Bob Hope movie collection.

I just watched a video called An All American Christmas Carol on Netflix. It is a retelling of the classic story, but set in a redneck, trashy family, with the main character being a terrible mom. It was a horrible film, and while the movie's female lead gets redemption (sort of) in the end, it was just a really sad excuse for a movie. I don't know who would even make a movie like this. One of the saddest things was that Beverly D'Angelo played the Grandmother character in this movie. My suggestion: Don't waste your time on this one. I kept watching because I thought it had to get better as it went along, but it never did.

Note: Don't cofuse this with the similar sounding American Christmas Carol, which stars Henry Winkler.

I recently found the TV movie "The Gathering" (1977) on DVD. I've never seen it but the reviews are very promising.
