Absolutely my favorite, too. I remember when it was released. My brother and I used to take turns choosing what movie to see while our parents Christmas shopped. That year, he won out, and we went to see the re-released 2001 A Space Odyssey. Ok, not a bad trade off, but luckily they re-released Scrooge the next year. Over the many years since, most of them filled with one kind of literary study or another, this film version has held up nicely.

I'll also give a nod to the TV special that introduced me to the character of Scrooge: Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. Some great songs there, too.

I was planning on watching that one this year, a simple yet effective animated tale that really hits home...

Sorry, I don't want to derail the thread, but...

No other movie Scrooge comes close to Alastair Sim. Come on, people.

I still think there's a controversy about that (yes, a controversy over a Christmas movie about otters!). Do you have DVD or VHS? From what I remember when looking into it, was that there was only one VHS version that had the complete movie, which I think included snippets with Kermit sprinkled here and there. I ended up getting the DVD as a gift, and so have settled for that (enjoyable regardless).

Giving another mention to both Scrooge McDuck (Disney's Christmas Carol) and Mr. Magoo. Love them both. If I'm not mistaken, it was the success of the Scrooge McDuck character that led to the fantastic Duck Tales cartoon - which IMO, was one of the greatest cartoon serials ever produced (and it led the way to somewhat of a Golden Age of cartoon shows like Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, Rescue Rangers and the beginning of the Batman series).
