Has anyone else noticed that the new Robin Williams movie, Merry Friggin' Christmas, is out on DVD already? Must be pretty sad to watch. Only other time I think a Christmas movie came out in Oct and was on home video by December was that terrible movie with James Gandolfini and Ben Affleck.

  5. My gateway into Christmas( today) is always Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dutch and some holiday episodes of Frasier. Sprinkle a few holiday episodes of The Simpsons and I'm rolling.

As far as I know the original HBO version has never been released on home video.

The closest release to the original HBO version of "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas" was the 1983 Muppet Video VHS/Betamax/Selectavision release. This was the version shown on broadcast TV (ABC) in 1980. It contains some extra material not shown on HBO, as well as a couple of cuts.

The closest on DVD was the 2001 Columbia/Tri Star Release, which contained Kermit's intro (but not his narration or closing), still had some edited dialog, though.

Speaking of..."A Pinky And The Brain Christmas" is still one of my seasonal "must watch" shows.

And of course, there's this from Animaniacs:

I just watched the Annette/Disney version of Babes in Toyland.
I have that on DVD, but it is not very good quality. I watched it on Netflix, where the colors are much better.
I did find the following special on You tube about the making of BIT that I think was shown on the Wonderful World of Disney.
WHY was this not included as a bonus on the DVD or BluRay release of the movie?

There are lots of great Christmas movies I treasure every year, but the holiday season isn't complete until I've watched this piece of magnificent awesomesauce:

Not strictly a Christmas movie, but set in and around the holidays and it is probably the funniest movie ever made. All IMO of course.
