Saw a mostly negative review of this film, done by Mark Kermode for the BBC.

Cool. They can pan the vocals to the ceiling when John sings ". . . that grow so incredibly HIGH . . ."

Saw this playing in town and not sure what to make out of it. Is it gonna sound better than my system at home?
    Or as comfortable?
Would like to rub elbows with fellow fans and hear their reactions to new mix

I can't access the article for some reason, but if the recording really takes advantage of the ATMOS features, it should sound great. A Dolby ATMOS certified cinema will feature high end equipment and the capability of handling a large number of discrete channels. However, assuming that they are only playing the 5.1 mix (routing the various channels to arrays of speakers), it might not sound that different from what you hear at home - just better overall sound quality. Also, there have been a lot of people on this Forum recently saying they aren't that interested in "audiophile" or "high end" systems.

So it really depends on whether you think it is worth the effort to listen to the same mix you can hear at home on a cinema sound system.

I'd bite if it were local. Not going to Canada for it. Cool idea for the price.

It's not available in Kansas City or even Chicago. Hopefully, they'll do one in the US.

Sounds like it will be comparable to going to see Cirque du Soleil's Love and being able to close your eyes and listen to the music, without the distraction of the performers. And a few hundred bucks cheaper, to boot.

Found a page that has US times. Apparently AMC has the US rights.

You know what would be even more fun? One of those Flaming Lips 5.1 mixes in a big theater. Those mixes (Yoshimi, for example) are wild!

At one point during the first year or two of DVD-Audio and SuperAudio CD, one movie chain was playing surround music samples during the pre-show. I'd read about it in a short-lived audio industry magazine about surround sound.

Surely Cineplex can relax its no-smoking policy for one event?...:nauga:

Are you saying you've been to one of these, and they have it cranked to 11...?

Movie theaters are always cranked to 11 these days, unfortunately. My ears were recently assaulted with several movie previews and even the comedies were excessively loud. Fortunately the film I saw was loud, but not as loud as the trailers.

Might hit that NYC one. Especially seeing as how Amazon failed to deliver yesterday and are saying it will be a few more days.
